right wrist: Loud clicking noise! - May 30th 2011, 10:01 PM

Hi

Its only my right wrist and It has been happening alot when I move my wrist this really loud clicking sound will happen and thats all it takes is for me to move it/turn it and it didn't use to happen before, its really annoying me though but it's so loud and embarrasing and I'm worried that if i'm doing something in class such as art/writing and then that loud click happens.

Questions:
What is it?
Is there a way to get rid of it?
Anything that will help it?

sorry for my bad explaining!

The same thing happens to me. When I talked to my doctor about it he had told me it was just my wrist cracking. Which whenever a joint "cracks" it's just nitrogen bubbles popping in the joints. I know most people I know find it funny and amusing. So it's really not embarrassing or anything to be embarrassed about. A lot of people also get a kick out of bending my fingers all the way back to the backside of my hands.

There's nothing to really worry about unless it's painful. If it is, then definitely tell your doctor about it because it could be something more serious that can easily be helped.

My wrists used to pop all the time, and that sounds like that's what this is... If it's painful, however, you need to go get it checked out because it COULD be an injury that requires surgery. However, if it doesn't hurt and it's just a loud popping sound, then it's probably just nitrogen bubbles building up which is normal and it happens to everyone.

I had that same clicking sound in my left wrist and ended up having to have surgery on it. What we thought was just a regular old sprain/strain ended up being torn cartilage.
What happened was... I would rotate my wrist and, of course, it would hurt, and it would feel like it was catching as if the joints weren't lubricated enough. Once it caught and I would push it past that point, it would make a clicking sound. The pain was basically right in the center of my wrist. After an MRI, my doctor concluded that I had torn the TFCC (triangular fibrocartilagenous complex) and the only way to fix it was to have surgery.

So basically... If it really hurts and you've injured it recently, get it checked out. If it's not and it's just an annoying popping, then.... it's normal and don't worry about it unless it becomes painful.
