Ovarian cysts, question to those who have been through it or can provide information. -
July 25th 2011, 06:53 PM
Hey there.
I had some horrible pain on one side of my abdomen and back. I went to the ER and they told me it was just my period. However, I know my body and I know it wasn't my period. My friend talked to his bosses wife, who is a PA. She said it was probably a ruptured cyst. What exactly are the signs of a ruptured cyst? How does it feel? I did internet research and I guess there are different types of cysts. I also hear this is normal. Should I just leave it? Hmm. Any information will be helpful. ![]() I was looking for a breath of life For a little touch of heavenly light But all the choirs in my head say, no oh oh |

I have ovarian cysts but have yet to have a rupture. The pain you describe could just be cyst pain or a ruptured cyst if it's severe enough. I'd go back to the ER and demand to get it checked out and make sure they listen. Make sure to tell them you know it's not period pains. There can be issues and complications with ruptured cysts which is why it's best to go and get it checked out.

Thanks for the reply.
![]() What kind of issues and complications? I have no medical insurance right now. And the hospital here has like nothing, as its very small. I mean all they did was a urine sample. They said if I still have pain then to come back for an ultrasound Wednesday because that's the only day the guy will be there to do it. I could go to a bigger hospital, but I don't really want to unless I really absolutely have to, because ER visits cost money. And the visit last night will probably cost money and it was pretty much pointless to go. ![]() I was looking for a breath of life For a little touch of heavenly light But all the choirs in my head say, no oh oh |

I get them, recently it's been every month and it's AWFUL. I can be in SO much pain, even when they aren't ruptured. However, my sister had a ruptured one. This resulted in her passing out from the pain and such. They knew it ruptured because an ultrasound revealed blood (they knew it was fluid, don't remember how they knew it was blood) in her abdomen. She threw up a lot and such, and was in pain all the time. It took 3 hospitals, 3 states, and 3 months for her to find out what happened. The blood had dried all her organs together, making movement very painful. So that could be one complication I suppose.
You could always get a regular OB/GYN and have them check it out. The first thing they'd probably do is an ultrasound. Normally, cysts can be controlled with birth control. "'Colie, you should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.' I shook my head. 'You don't know--' I began. But, as usual, she didn't let me finish. 'Yes,' she said simply, 'I do know. I've watched you, Colie. You walk around like a dog waiting to be kicked. And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.' 'No one deserves to be kicked,' I said. 'I disagree,' she said flatly. 'You do if you don't think you're worth any better...'" |

Thanks for your response.
![]() So it'd probably be a good idea to get a second opinion then? I don't feel near as much pain today then yesterday? So, should I let it go? I'm on birth control and have been for a month. I hadn't had a period since around may first. That's almost 3 months. So, I had some light spotting and now it's gone. Could that be period or something else? I really really really appreciate all of your help.

You can always wait a while and see if it goes away, I know the whole money thing is stressful. If you've only been on it for a month, it probably wouldn't have had time to help cysts if you get them, or it might not be the right BC. I'm not sure, my appointment for it is August 4th (I'll text you and tell you how that goes, since I'll have more information on all this
). I haven't ever been on BC yet, but I know they always say you can have spotting and stuff at first.

I would go get it checked out. My mom had an ovarian cyst that ended up eating the ovary on one side and she had to get it completely removed. She recently had the other one removed. I can't help much more than letting you know it can get kinda serious if it's dismissed. I hope you get the answers you need. Good luck!
