Extremely Super Fast Metabolism? - January 10th 2009, 01:06 AM

I'm not asking for any professional/medical answers & etc

But I wanna know if this is "normal"

Quick Facts:
17 (almost 18)
5'6"
I feel like my weight isn't normal
I eat like a beast. Especially the fatty foods.
I should be big like my dad
But no I'm super skinny.

Normal? I don't know.
But I do know I have an appointment
on the 24th of this month.

Just a random post.

You're not allowed to post anything related to weight on the site.
You might want to take the weight numbers off your post before one of the mods of this forum does it for you.

As regards to your question, everyone is different and your metabolism is dependent on a lot of different things. I wouldn't worry about it, but we'll see what your doctor does.

Honestly, that seems pretty normal to me. I had a friend who was your age and ate about 6 cheeseburgers a day for a while because he thought he was too skinny. He didn't gain a pound.
The chances that there is something wrong are probably slim. Don't worry. =]

Re: Extremely Super Fast Metabolism? - January 10th 2009, 05:31 AM

When I was between the ages of 16 to 19, I ate loads! i literally couldn't fit any more eating into my day, and what I did eat was junk out of the vending machine in the school common room. I was a skinny thing too, so I thought it didn't matter.

I'm 21 now and its all caught up on me. It gets harder to keep off as you get older. I'm not the weight I should be for all the crap I eat, not by any means, but I'm not tiny any more. I'd say I was about average, but having been so small for so many years, its a bit depressing.

Naaah, I think you're normal. There's quite a few people in my year like that it sucks! You're just lucky that you burn energy quicker than most. I barely eat anything and gain something!

Same here! You'd be surprised at how "normal" it actually is. You think it's abnormal because sadly, the majority of the world seem to be overweight or obese due to poor diet and lack of exercise, so compared to them you think you're irregular - but trust me, there's plenty of us with fast metabolisms! Like me, i can eat anything and everything and NOT exercise, and not gain a thing, perhaps even lose some weight =S

Some things are just unexplainable, i've had so many tests and everything came back fine, so you know, we just have to suck it up and deal with it. Hopefully it catches up to us eh? but not too much! =P

I'm also very much the same way. I eat many meals a day and don't gain weight all that easily. I've just always had a very speedy metabolism. Like it's been mentioned, your metabolism may not stay this fast forever.

As everyone pretty much covered. Every persons metabolism is different. A friend of mine eats non-stop junk food all day, which probably would amount to more calories than i consume in two or three days and she's extremely thin. It's just a matter of your genetics, someone in your family probably has a similar issue.

Re: Extremely Super Fast Metabolism? - January 10th 2009, 05:34 PM

It's not to do with metabolic rate.

It's to do with genetics and body types and if you are geneticly made to carry fat.

Common misconception is that your metabollic rate is high, because infact a overweight person's is higher.

Mesomorph - If you have large bones, and shoulders that are wider than your hips then this is you, you will be more adverse at gaining muscle.

Ectomorph - If you are very slim (Skinny) and small boned with hips and shoulders about the same size then this is you. You can change the definition of your body but will find it difficult to increase muscle size.

Endomorph - Are you curvy, large boned, hips wider than your shoulders with a nice store of fat then this is you. it is possible to tone and shape but will be a lot harder work.

Google these for more information, but you are obviously an Ectomorph. Where as I am a Mesomorph.

it could still be a high metabolic rate though, the fact that overweight people one have a larger one is only because the body needs to put more effort into getting the body to work...

Of course such as foods recently taken and muscle mass.

However genetics are the prime cause of BMR.

I'm sure genetics don't make much of a difference if the subject is over/under weight, surely it's more like 50%genes 50% environment?

Genetics will make you carry more weight or make you carry more muscle or make you skinny.

As the 3 body types show. If you have high muscle or high fat your BMR is higher than the average. If your skinny or normal you will have a fairly average BMR.

Environment will always have an effect, becuase foods you eat can directly relate to BMR aswell as exercise such as weight training.

For example cardiovascular exercise is heightens your BMR massivly while your exercising, but 5 mins after you've stopped it returns to normal.

Where as weight training/resistance heightens your BMI to a high BMR however it stays high for hours.

if you mean the BMR get higher during exorcise then your wrong as BMR is how much is energy is need to run your body if you were resting all day.

It's not if you were resting all day, its if the body is at rest. Your body can rest after exercise and as a result your BMR is higher.

RMR is more commonly used now, due to it being easier to measure.

but your BMR wouldn't be accurate that day due to the exorcise, so exorcise doesn't effect it.

Well to be fair you are correct it would not be accurate. However to record an accurate BMR reading, you would have to fast for 12 hours. As this does not replicate a real life, this is often over looked. This is why BMR was replaced with RMR for the most case because resting can be applied to real life.

Guys please just state your opinions, give your facts, and move on. Let's not get carried away here.

The bottom line is that many people experience this, and if the original poster is concerned about their health or physical state, they should consult with their physician about their issues.

If you mean normal as in fairly common, then yes. If you mean normal as in "is this good" or "is this a proper effect on my body", probably yes. If you do more exercise, you're going to need more energy, hence, eat more.

Your metabolism is in part genetically determined and in part determined by your environment. There's not too much to do about it on the genetics side. On the environmental side, if you eat more often, eat more caloric foods or more protein-based foods and exercise, you're going to gain weight, more muscle than fat.

Later in life, your metabolism decreases and that's when the shit hits the fan. You can stuff your face with fatty foods and may not notice anything now but later on, athersclorosis can be a possible outcome. Having larger muscles later in life (not as in the abnormally large, anabolic steroid-induced type) won't be as big of a health problem.
