Wisdom tooth removed -
August 12th 2011, 07:24 PM
Hi, so 2 months ago when i went to the dentist for cleaning, i discovered that i had to wisdom teeth on my lower jaw. so then about 3 days ago i felt pain on my right side. so today i went to the dentist and it turns out that the tooth on the right side was popping up (both are at major angles so they will be taken out regardless) well one was coming out. so i went to the dentist and got it removed. not the most memorable experience. well now im at home slowly sipping water and the bleeding is closing to an end. when can i go back to biting down and eating regularly again?
thanks mk96ftw |

I just got my wisdom teeth out on the 8th (4 days ago). The first two days all I could eat was ice cream, sorbet, popsicles, and variations on soup. By the third day I could manage saltine crackers. Now I can manage soft pasta, fruit, and cheese. I'm not going to try anything solid for a few more days.

I had one of mine out in May I think and I made the stupid mistake of going back to eating hot food, sipping through a straw because it didn't hurt and I developed dry socket (which was more painful than the wisdom tooth pain) so I would give it 5 days at least.
I am due to have my other 2 out soon so will NOT be making that mistake again. |

Hey there. =)
I just got mine taken out yesterday, and I'll I've been able to eat is bread, and only enough so I can take Vatican. I wouldn't suggest eating anything too hot or cold for at least five or six days, otherwise you should be good(at least that's what I was told. =P ) hear us sing! ![]() you will draw from the silence the things you ask strength, hope, and the courage to grow. ♥ |

Ya definitely no straws aha. Dry socket I can only imagine would not be fun at all. I had all four of my wisdom teeth out at once so it took me quite a while before I could eat solid foods again. I think it was the third or fourth day before I ate anything other then popsicles and soup n such. Even then all I ate was a grilled cheese sandwich aha. Granted that being said if you only got one out then you could probably chew on the other side and as long as you rinse after of whatever you should be okay. Stitches can vary from person to person so I dunno what to tell you after that. I can't really remember when mine came out.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out at once and one of them was going to be at an unusual angle. None of them came through the gum but I was having what felt like awful ear-aches, went to my family doctor because it was getting pretty awful and he didn't find anything. I went to the dentist and they said 1-2 of the wisdom teeth were pushing against other teeth from the bottom. For me it took longer to heal because the removal took longer and needed more cutting than for most wisdom teeth removals. It took around 9 days for it to stop hurting but an additional 1.5-2 week for me to open my mouth fully without it hurting. Due to the amount of cutting that was needed, the surgeon would only do it at the hospital and went completely under for around 40-45 minutes and whatever the sedatives were, they lasted half the day after the surgery (I got it done at 9:30 am). Yours may not last as long.
None of the sockets were stitched up but 1 of them become a "dry socket". It wasn't that fun and it was treated by the surgeon putting in Alvogyl. It has a very strong taste of cloves (which I like so it wasn't that bad of taste) but the surgeon had to forcefully pack it into the open socket. It hurt for about 2-3 minutes after being in but then didn't hurt anymore. Some of it dissolves on its own, although the surgeon had to eventually take it out, which didn't hurt. I had a previous oral surgery where I got my gums stitched up. It took 1.5-2 weeks for them to dissolve, however, there are different types of them which can last longer (i.e. Vicryl). You'll feel them when you run your tongue over them in the first few days. I'd recommend getting eggs because fried scrambled eggs are very easy to eat. Don't do what I did, which was accidentally jabbing the bottom left socket with the fork while I was laughing at some stupid movie. Also, puddings, soups (not hearty ones), nutella or cheese sandwiches, bananas, etc... are ideal to eat. If you have stitches, don't use straws to drink with, especially in the beginning because it's gonna hurt. I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
