my toe - September 7th 2011, 02:21 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

ok the other day my toe nail somehow was digging into the side of my other toe, my toes sometimes cross over each other and one ends up underneath each other or something weird than that, and well, I pulled off the bit of toe nail, my toe then was still hurting, so on a closer look I found some spilt skin, which I pulled off. My toe is now sore and swollen, there is no puss coming out of it ect, it's just sore and swollen. I've been putting salt on it and covering it with a plaster during the day, at night I've been rubbing salt onto it and have been letting it air at night, I've also been washing it in luke warm water with salt. What I'm wondering is this. Is there anything else I can do to help my toe heal as I'm on my feet during the day at work a lot and walking kinda hurts a lot.

During the day if your toe is being rubbed it can help to coat it in vaseline or petroleum jelly. Otherwise I think maybe some very cushioned sole inserts and more cushion around your toe would help. Also, keeping your feet moisturized can help heal faster, as well as crack and open less.

When you get home, lay on the floor with your foot propped up on a chair or bed for 15-20minutes. This will help reduce any extra swelling caused by being on your feet all day.

It's now become infected, the puss is coming out. I have cushioned it with plasters more during in the day and that does seem to be helping a-bit.

Puss is generally a sign of infection. Be sure to apply some antibiotic cream to it. If it gets worse, I would suggest seeing a doctor as they can then prescribe you an antibiotic pill to help fight the infection.

I have a Dr's app in two weeks roughly, the toe is not as painful though and I can walk on it easier without much pain, I'm washing it in salt and luke warm water more, and keeping it uncovered and letting air get to I am not at work. I've applied sudo creme to it.

Sounds like you are doing what you should be. Hopefully it will heal before the appointment. I am glad it is not as painful. Good luck

Have you washed it with any rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide? If you do, do not do that often. Some studies show that using it too often keeps wounds open.

I'd also suggest trying a cold compress for 15minutes at a time now that the problem is hopefully solved, other than swelling.

No I have not washed it with rubbing alcohol or peroxide. I've simply been washing it in luke warm salt water. I'll try the cold compress.
