Unhappy ..Finger..bump..thing? - September 8th 2011, 01:48 AM

So on my right hand, my ring finger, there's suddenly a swollen bump on the top part, right beneath the fingernail.
I don't know what it is but it's making my finger look really weird and I dislike it, a lot.
It doesn't hurt, it's not red or anything, there are no cuts, but it's swollen across both sides.
Anyways.. Anyone dealt with this before?
Thanks.

It could be an ingrown nail or even a wart of some kind.

Does it feel tender when you touch it?

It could be many things.

As Jasmine suggested, a wart. Or it could be a callus/writer's bump. I have one that will likely never go away It might also be a blister.
I'd suggest keeping an eye on it. Though it is likely nothing major since it is not red nor painful. Just be sure to moisturize the area often and don't mess with it. Let it rest. Hopefully it will fix on its own.

Is it squishy or hard?
Squishy would indicate some forms of a callus or blister. Hard could also be a callus or a wart.

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

My friend at school said he thinks it's a writers bump..
It never goes away?! ): I don't like that very much...
Thanks guys, I don't think it's a wart or anything, it's under the skin and hard

Thanks again (:

If it's where your pen rests then yeah it's probably a writer's bump. I have one too.

Are you right handed? The pen can cause a bump

Mine actually went away when I had a writers bump, but there is still a red mark. Try holding your pen differently for a while <3

They can go away, but you have to either switch the way you hold your pen/pencil. I never did and it's basically permanent now Not a big deal, nobody ever notices it. It got smoother but stayed a round bump on the side of my finger. So if someone touches it, it feels normal. If you look close, you can tell it's a bump. So it doesn't bother me.

Just give your finger time to heal. I'd say at least a couple weeks. It should go away. I just never bothered to try haha
