Glasses... - September 29th 2011, 05:14 AM

So I got my first pair of glasses. The doctor said I am near sighted. I know this is a stupid question and my girlfriend told me that I have to wear them the rest of my life but .....can classes work like braces for teeth to where you only need them for a year or so and your problem is fixed?

No, your vision cannot be corrected by wearing glasses. You can fix your vision with a kind of molding contacts that one wears at night (I don't know what they are called, but my friend has them) or through laser surgery.

Sadly, no. You can get laser eye surgery, but I love my glasses personally. I think they're fashionable.

Nah you can't, but it may be possible to get your vision fixed through laser surgery.

Glasses don't correct your vision but occassionally vision corrects itself. A firend of mine wore glasses as a teen and was recently told she doesn't need them anymore, she was far sighted ... I wish mine would correct itself :P

It is correct what everyone else has said and Bryden has a good point. It is possible for it to correct itself and is more likely to correct itself if you have problems as a teen. Though it is not a sure thing it will correct itself.

Contacts are a good alternative. I wear my glasses all the time now because I couldn't find contacts that didn't irritate my eyes. But some people wear contacts all the time whereas others wear contacts for special occasions.

Also, I was first diagnosed with nearsightedness. My doctor told me I didn't have to wear my glasses at all times, only when I would need to see things from distances. To avoid wearing them in school, I sat at the front and my teacher knew, so she made arrangements to let me.

I kept my glasses in a case with me at all times, but didn't have to wear them all the time. Maybe you can try that unless your doctor meant you actually had to wear them constantly.

I wish! I'm also nearsighted & I hateee wearing glasses, so I usually wear contacts. But without either, I'm totally blind. There are surgeries to fix this though, but they're a bit pricey. But heck, they work! Both of my parents got them done a few years ago.

Once you start wearing glasses, your eyes will only get worse, as they become lazy from relying on the glasses.

However, there are some eye exercises you can do which supposedly correct your eyesight. I suggest you check Google.

I'm actually planning on doing it soon, as my brother has been moaning at me that my eyes are going to get worse if I keep wearing glasses. "After all," he says, "No one ever leaves the optician's with a weaker prescription than what they went in with, it's always a stronger one." >.>

Glasses aren't so bad once you get used to seeing yourself in them =) But if you don't want glasses, maybe you could talk to your optician about wearing contact lenses instead?

I wish that it would correct the problem, but sadly, it doesn't. I'm nearsighted too. xD I'm glad you like your glasses though! You do get used to them after a bit. You, or other people, might even think you look different without them after a while! xD

I wish glasses corrected vision. I've been wearing glasses since I was about 6 years old. I'm now 18 and I'm blind as a bat without my glasses.

I am both nearsighted and farsighted. Another user recomended only wearing glasses at certain times, however this can lead to more eye strain, and cause your vision to deteriorate faster. My vision is already getting quite serious and has shown steady deterioration, and the doctor recomended wearing my glasses all the time, to avoid worsening my vision.

Yeah I noticed today that my eyes are weak without my glasses, and I only have had them for a few days and am already dependent on them LOL

I started wearing glasses during my Sophomore year of high school, when I sat in a huge lecture room instead of a regular classroom for my economics class. I, of course, got seated at the top tier and began to notice that I couldn't see the board/projector when trying to take notes. That same year, I began wearing glasses. I was 15 when that happened, and am now 21, and my vision has progressively gotten worse in that period of time. I also learned that I have a astigmatism's in both eyes. I have to change glasses every 1-2 years since my vision progressively gets worse.

As people said, it can correct itself, but more often your vision will get worse over time.

I may wear the glass slippers; But my hero wears combat boots <3 I love you, Lieutenant

I was merely going off of what my eye doctor has told me. He said it will not worsen your eyes, but it will cause more strain which can be uncomfortable. So he suggested not wearing them for when I need to read up close ,etc. And I was given bifocals. You shouldn't read things up close with your glasses on (also what he told me) so that's when we decided bifocals would be best so I wouldn't have to keep taking them off or forget them somewhere.

I will be closing this thread as the OPs question has been answered.
If you want it reopened, feel free to PM me and explain why.
