Pulled calf muscle - October 11th 2011, 03:41 AM

So I was in a dance show last night, which went amazingly .. except I pulled my left calf muscle (one the lower part of my calf) in the first bit. It was shaking through the rest of the dance and now it's agony to walk on.
I've tried painkiller, heat packs, massaging, ice packs, hot shower ... as well as stretching of course. I did warm up but it's still super painful. A couple of the professional dancers tried to help me stretch it out after the show but it didn't help ...
Any recommendations? Like I dunno, better massage techniques or pills or anything. I had to call in sick to work it was so bad, and I have work again tomorrow morning, can't afford to bail again

Let your leg rest, but still use it. You don't want to put it in a brace or anything or not use it or it will get stiff and have a harder time healing.

Put an ice pack on it for 15 minutes at a time for the first 48 hours. Then put heat compresses on it for 15 minutes at a time until it is healed. You should do both compresses frequently. Also take something with acetaminophen in it. Advil or Ibuprofen are popular in the US.

If it doesn't go away after 3 days then you should see a doctor. Sometimes the muscles aren't able to relax on their own, or you could have pulled a tendon. Then they will provide you with some meds to take for just a couple days while the muscle heals itself.

Ice it!! then stretch your leg a little bit. After you've stretched it apply heat and keep your leg elevated. Depending on severity and body type
it could take up to 2 weeks to heal maybe less I ones pulled a muscle and it took only a couple of days also drink a lot of water.
Good Luck.!

I'm not the most active but I do a fair bit of exercise so body type is slim but not overly muscly. I've been icing and heating etc, but I'll try doing it more frequently it's been almost 2 days now and the pain's less but still pretty bad. I'll keep this up though, thanks ladies.
