I really hurt my knee - October 23rd 2011, 10:00 PM

I fell over yesterday (I know, I'm like a child ) and I grazed my knee. It looks bruised and cut. Problem is it really hurts when I walk Surely a graze isn't supposed to hurt that badly :| Im walking around like a tit.

I CAN walk but it hurts. Should I have an X-Ray? I have a horrible feeling I've broken something.

A graze is meant to sting. A deeper pain has nothing to do with the graze. If you're really concerned I would have an X-ray, although I do sports, and have had this kind of pain also and it usually goes away within a week.

I don't think you've broken anything... perhaps bruised some tissue deeper down in your joint, or scarred it somehow.

But don't if you're easily triggered. If you're not easily triggered then go ahead.

If you're worried you broke or fractured something, you should go and get an X-Ray so it doesn't get worse when you walk. In the meantime, keep the cut clean and bandaged and if it's swollen, put ice 20 min on & 20 min off.

Is it swollen? If so, you might have fractured something, so if it's swollen, hop along to the hospital

But if it's not swollen, it's very very unlikely you've broken anything. Leave it a couple of days. If it still hurts to walk in 2 - 3 days, then it might be worth a trip to the hospital.

Try icing it or buy a cheap tubi-grip type bandagey thing to give it some more support.

Home you feel better soon : )<3

I fell out of bed a few weeks ago and landed on the wooden floor on my knees and it really hurt for a few days-I was just very bruised and swollen but not broken.

Try putting some ice on it (it will be cold and sore) but it may help.

If there is no improvement in the bruising or swelling after a few days, take yourself off for an x ray.

Does it hurt on the surface, or somewhere in the joint, or still somewhere else, like in the bone somehow?

It wouldn't make sense if it's on the surface, because that's where the graze is.

Before you go to hospital I would suggest the 'PRICE' method- they will do it too.

P-painkillers. Over the counter Ibuprofen and paracetamol.
R- Rest. Don't walk on it unnecessarily.
I- Ice/heat. Ice wrapped in a tea towel/ a hot water bottle wrapped in a tea towel
C- Compression. Some people find it helps. Try getting a tubigrip support bandage.
E- Elevation. Keep the leg up for as long as possible/ where possible.

If you don't find that the pain subsides in about 3 days/ the painkillers don't work then I would suggest going to hospital. As you've said you can walk around on it, it's unlikely (not impossible) to be fractured. See how you go.
