Re: 18 and a 1st trip to the obgyn -

If you're 18, then I'm pretty sure they legally cannot tell your mom without your written consent. When you sign all the paperwork they'll probably have a section to list someone they can share results with, if you don't want her knowing then just don't put her. You don't have to put anyone.
What they'll probably do if you think you have cysts is do an ultrasound which shouldn't matter if you've been sexually active or not. "'Colie, you should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.' I shook my head. 'You don't know--' I began. But, as usual, she didn't let me finish. 'Yes,' she said simply, 'I do know. I've watched you, Colie. You walk around like a dog waiting to be kicked. And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.' 'No one deserves to be kicked,' I said. 'I disagree,' she said flatly. 'You do if you don't think you're worth any better...'" |

There is no way the obgyn can tell your parents. You're over the age of 16 and they'll be breaking the law if they so much as said anything to your parents. I strongly urge you to go to your obgyn if you think you have cysts on your ovaries. This can cause a whole host of different symptoms and they'll be able to help you manage the symptoms that you have!
All the best. |

Doctors can't tell your mother anything without your legal consent. If they were to tell your mother without your consent, without you knowing about it all, they are putting themselves are risk for losing their practicing license. Doctor's take an oath when they become new doctor's that they won't give out doctor/patient information without the consent of the patient first. When I was 15, and getting birth control for the first time, I asked them kindly not to let my mother or anyone in my family know, giving them my personal cell phone number and kindly asked them not to send me any mail either so my mom wouldn't find out about it. So, don't worry too much about your mom finding out if your sexually active or not.

Shannon hit it right on. Even if you are under 18, they cannot legally tell them ANYthing unless you give them consent. Explain to your doctor you have yet to tell your mom you are sexually active. They sometimes will be willing to help explain to your mom that you are, but your mom will likely dislike that and take it even harder.
So the doctor will be careful with what they say. Also, being sexually active, you should see an OBGYN at least once every 3 years, although you should see a doctor who can give you a pap test once a year. This is for your safety. Feel free to let us know what happens
So you have gray hair and you're only 26
that's just another reason I love you... ![]() ![]() ![]() |
