Scar has a lump which is sore? -
December 23rd 2011, 11:05 PM
Hii.
I just realised that a scar on the top of my arm has a lump in it. I know this can happen with a few types of scars such as hypertropic scars, but it's really painful and it looks a bit weird. Like a purple lump. A bit like there's blood in there. I don't know. The scar is from, like maybe four or six months back. It just really hurts and I get freaked out by these things and just wondered if anyone has had this happen? Thankyou :-) ![]() Three little birds sat on my window, and they told me I don't need to worry. The purple could be part of the scar and healing process. The lump is also possibly normal.
Is the scar/lump warm? Are you feverish? It's most likely just sore from healing. I know it's an older scar, but some scars take over a year to fully heal while others can take much longer. During the healing process, your scar may change some colors (red, purple, white) and it may become more sensitive during certain periods than others. This is also part of the healing process. I think you'll be fine. But if it's VERY warm to touch or if you develop a line (of course), or fever, then you should get it looked at by a doctor in case it became infected. So you have gray hair and you're only 26

It could be scar tissue underneath the scar itself. I get this a lot with old piercings I've had that have since closed, like on my cartilages and my ears. If it's concerning you, you should always consult a doctor about it.

It could be a keyloid. I have a couple of them from scars on my leg.

No, definitely not normal. That sounds like it severely infected if there is GREEN stuff coming out. Definitely see a doctor. They will probably have it cleaned and give you antibiotics. You don't have to tell them how you got the scar. If it looks obvious, try calling your doctor and explain you have an infected scar that has now opened and has nasty puss leaking out. They might prescribe you antibiotics over the phone then.

Best get it checked. I had a little red lump under one of mine that hurt like hell, and it came up REAL nasty all of a sudden. Unfortunately I was a right idiot and didn't get it looked at, so it got all abcessy and left a whopping hole and another scar.
If you reallllllly don't want to see a doctor, bathe it in warm water mixed with TCP antiseptic, keep it clean and dry, and apply antiseptic cream. If it doesn't go away, the infection could be deep in which case you DO need to see someone. ![]() Just a hop, skip and a jump. |
