My boyfriend has mono! Get well soon ideas? -
January 18th 2012, 05:30 PM
My boyfriend is back at school and went to the health center today and found out he has mono! I'm going back on Friday or Saturday and I want to get things for him so that he'll feel better physically and also to cheer him up.
I've already had mono in senior year, and I don't think he got it from me. He's shared drinks and pipes a lot so I'm guessing that's how he got it. I plan on getting him juice and ice cream and sorbet and throat lozenges. I want to make a little basket or box of get well soon items. What other medical related things could I put in there? Specifically like pain relievers, sleep aids, etc. that will help? (I shunned a lot of medications when I had mono as I hate taking pills, and I'm allergic to ibuprofen, so I'm not too familiar with OTC meds.) I'm also putting in a teddy bear that I got him for Christmas, and a bag or two of Hershey's Kisses (since I can't give him real ones). Do you guys have any ideas for me? |

As far as medicines, can't think of anything. You've thought of everything else that would nice for him. I hope he recovers quickly.

I agree with Amber, sounds like you've got him covered. It's really awesome of you to do this for him, you're a great girlfriend! Hope he feels better soon.

When I had mono the only drink that I could swallow was Orange Soda. For some reason it made my throat hurt a little less.
Now, this is probably a really unhealthy idea (scratch that, it IS) but you could try to get him some sort of energy drink that he likes. I remember how tired I was with mono, and I also remember how tired YOU were when you had mono. So maybe something to help him stay awake enough to do school stuff. "'Colie, you should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.' I shook my head. 'You don't know--' I began. But, as usual, she didn't let me finish. 'Yes,' she said simply, 'I do know. I've watched you, Colie. You walk around like a dog waiting to be kicked. And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.' 'No one deserves to be kicked,' I said. 'I disagree,' she said flatly. 'You do if you don't think you're worth any better...'" |

A cough medicine if he is coughing from the sore throat. And maybe you could get a new pillow for him if you wanted. I know I love new pillows. They're so...new haha. (just a random idea).
You could also get some pudding. As for OTC meds, Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) usually works well. And if he will be in bed a lot, maybe get him a bunch of songs he likes so he can listen to them in bed. Hope he gets better soon
So you have gray hair and you're only 26
that's just another reason I love you... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Advil IS Ibuprofen.
And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.' Yes, I know, but in stores you can find bottles with either name so I mention them all. I'll try to clarify better by stating as Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin).
Edit again: I see what you mean. I did phrase that as if they were different medicines Thank you for pointing that out!

A fuzzy blanket?
You could try also getting him a bunch of kool-aid, I loved that when I had mono. ![]() People don't cry because they are weak. People cry because they have been strong for too long. |

Hello Becca, I hope your boyfriend is feeling better and I hope that you managed to sort him out a lovely 'get well pack'. I'm going to close this thread as all of the replies are very similar and it has been 10 days since you last posted! If you would like me to reopen the thread then feel free to PM me!
