Bleeding A Lot. - January 20th 2012, 04:41 AM

So, I'm on my period right now and I'm bleeding a lot more than I ever have before. I'm not sure if it's something I should be worried about, but it's just freaking me out a little bit. I'm not sure if this is related or not, but I've had a pounding headache since last night. I started my cycle yesterday afternoon. Maybe that has something to do with the blood loss? I dunno. Am I just being silly?

How much is a lot? If you're bleeding through one pad or tampon more frequently then every two hours then go straight to your Doctor. If it's just 'slightly heavier' then you may find that your peroid will be shorter. Or, you're adjusting to a new cycle. If it does begin to worry you then i'd suggest to go to your doctor any way x

As Lottie said, if it's more than one pad or tampon an hour, go to the doctor or ER. If it's less than that, it's probably nothing to worry about. Periods change sometimes.

As for the headaches, that is a common symptom of PMS. You should talk to your doctor about it anyways. Birth control can help alleviate PMS symptoms.

that's just another reason I love you...

Well I know the above posters said go to the doctor depending on how much, but that used to happen to me all the time. Of course, definitely see a doctor if it's as they described, but I don't think it's a big deal if the flow is a lot more than usual. Are you on the pill or anything?

No, I'm not on the pill. It's not quite so bad that it's more than one pad or tampon an hour. But, it's definitely really heavy! I'll just keep an eye on it for now.

I would keep an eye on it, and consider calling a doctor just to ask a question. I have a fairly heavy period, not going over the 1 tampon/pad thing, but a good amount. However, I've heard of bad cases where people had an issue in other parts of their body and it kind of expressed itself in the period flow. Not sure how it all works, but I really would keep an eye on it.

I'm fifteen and I have to use and ultra tampon sometimes because its so heavy. There's a light, regular, heavy, super, and ultra tampon for the tampax pearl, which is what I use. and there have been times when it's filling that every 4 hours still. Shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Your health concerns are never silly. If you are concerned, of course make an appointment to see your doctor. As well, your flow and other symptoms can change due to stress as well, which could result in the headache as well. Is this the case? It would help to discuss this with your doctor as well if you are concerned.

I'm 15 and just genetically have heavy periods. A light period is when I can go three hours with an overnight pad without changing it. I also get them every two weeks. (Going on BC soon because ultrasounds look fine)

Anyways Like all the rest said, if it's really bothering you, you can go to the doctor and see what they think. If it's just a little bit heavier, periods change, that's totally normal. If you want, you can try taking some ibuprofen. Sometimes that lightens periods up a bit for people.

You may just be getting a heavier period. But yeah, keep an eye on it. If it gets to be worrisome, you could always ask your mom or call the doctor.
