Question How long does 1 mg of Xanax last? - February 29th 2012, 10:24 AM

So basically I have something in school tomorrow where I'm going to need to take some Xanax for it, but it makes me INCREDIBLY drowsy. The thing is in the morning- am I going to be drowsy all day, or...?
Thanks.

Hi Sarah.

Obviously this is very much dependent on each individual person so the time frame is quite a wide one. Your body will handle the drug at different speeds compared to others. Xanax has a half life of around 6-12 hours, this is based on taking 0.5mg. I'm quite sure that taking 1mg will leave you drowsy for a large period of the day if this is the reaction you've experienced previously. However, your body sometimes effects differently to drugs and you may find you're able to manage it better.

Your best option however, is to ask the medical professional administering this drug to you as they'll be able to provide the most accurate answer.

Chatlotte, I couldn't have said that any better!

If you have taken Xanax recently and been drowsy, then it likely won't change this time. Sometimes, after a few months, you might experience less effects from the drug.

The best thing you could do, is to talk to the physician who prescribed it to you. They might even suggest taking half a pill for that day.

Sorry we can't help much more! Hopefully you can speak to your doctor and figure something out.
