Eating after being sick - April 1st 2009, 09:01 AM

Yesterday I was vomiting all day, and couldn't eat anything at all.
Today I still feel pretty ill, but don't feel like i'm going to be sick.
I'm incredibly weak, I'm drinking water as its about the only thing I don't feel sick with. I know I need to eat something but I tried to eat dry toast this morning and could hardly eat half of it.

Anyone know anything I could eat that would be easy on the stomach?

Hey Hannah,

I have a very sensitive stomach, and get sick often...so I know how you feel. Try to keep whatever you eat simple; toast with jelly, apple sauce, ramen noodles, bananas, and other fruits. Go with your gut feeling; if something sounds good to you, try it! Most of the time, if thinking about a food doesn't make you feel sick, then it is worth trying to eat.

Remember to eat things with natural sugars and carbohydrates; because you are having trouble keeping things down, your blood sugar could drop and make it even harder to not get sick.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon! Get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids, watch some TV and relax!

I can say that I wanna try.
I feel helpless for the most part,
but I'm learning to open my eyes.
And the sad truth of the matter is,
I'll never get over it,
but I'm gonna try
to get better and overcome each moment
in my own way"

Try ginger biscuits and barley sugar
Hardly the healthiest things, but they can help you from feeling sick and it'll put something in your stomach. I think Jessi has made a good list, i'd also recommend crackers :]

I'd try some crackers or toast (without any peanut butter or anything on it). It's okay to eat whatever you think your stomach can handle. Just try to eat with caution the first few times. Eat some bread, and if it settles in your stomach and doesn't make you feel sick after about an hour or two, eat something else if you're still hungry. Oh, and Sprite always tastes delicious and doesn't hurt your stomach when you've been sick.

Hey, I'm actually in a very similar position right now and I'm just snacking on some plain cream crackers. I think it'd be best to stick to plain starchy foods like that, maybe toast as well. I have a craving for pringles but I don't know how risky they'd be!!
Drinkswise, I know that ginger and ginger tea are very good for settling stomachs and helping with nausea, if you have any of that? Apart from water, you could try some flat 7up or sprite, or Lucozade, as they're all known to hel with sickness.
Take care, I hope you feel better soon. Hang in there!!

Miso soup was what got me started eating after I was sick a month or so ago. You can get lots of natty flavours in health food stores. Some have noodles in too.

Ease off acidic things for a while, rice pudding and apple [those muller rice desserts] can be nice, too.

try some plain soup or some mashed potato. plain crackers are good also. it's difficult, but you're doing the right thing by eating something, because the longer you go with not eating the harder it is to start eating again. or maybe i'm just weird.

One thing I love to do is add extra ginger to soup. The ginger soothes your tummy and it makes most soups taste extra yummy You can also stick to the BRAT diet (no I am not calling you names ). The BRAT diet consists of: Bananas, Rice, Apples, and Toast. Pretty bland I know but that is what you need now. Plain baked potatoes, jello, tea, and cereal are also good options. I hope you feel better soon.

Lots of love <3
