Psych Meds - December 1st 2018, 10:14 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of substance use, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I am one several Psych Meds for quite a few different issues I am dealing with. A few of these medicines a controlled narcotic drugs. Don't know if anyone is in the same situation as I am and that is the reason for the question, but sometimes I fear I might become addicted to these drugs. I do understand that all the prescribed medicine I am taking is being followed closely by my Psychiatrist, but she can't watch me 24/7. It does scare me sometimes. I suppose my question does anyone else ever feel this way about the medicines they take for their issues?

Hello Melody,

With any type of medication, someone takes there are risks and side effects, I am guessing your doctor has talked to you about these? If they haven't discussed this with you, this might be a place to ask them more about the medication you are taking.

Sometimes, one medication is best on its own, whereas, another medication works best in the combination of another medication so they work more effectively together. Some medication that is taken you need to take something else to help reduce any side effects (a common side effect to some medication could be acid reflux or stomach upsets), in order for all the medication to work.

You are right, some medication you may become dependant on it (rely on it) or can be addictive. The controlled narcotic that you are taking, do you feel that it's affecting you in a negative way right now? If it is, is it possible to make an appointment with the doctor to talk to them about it?

I understand that you are scared because you are taking a lot of medication, have you expressed your feelings to the doctor? Have you voiced your concerns you have about becoming addicted? I think it's beneficial for you to talk to them about it, it's important that you feel comfortable on the type of medication you are taking. From the sounds of it, you are really worried.

You aren't alone, many others have similar worries about the medication they are taking or a controlled substance they take.

I hope this was helpful. Stay strong.

MsNobleEleanor, thank you for responding. My Psychiatrist has discussed with both me and my parents all the affects of the medicines and what the medicines he prescribed for me. I take blood tests every so often for some of these medicines as well to see if my levels are in the right range for the MG's that I am taking. So we have been informed of all that stuff. I guess mostly the Narcotic Med makes me feel like I am in a fog and tired sometimes which is my biggest complaint of it. It isn't like I am at all feeling like I am becoming dependent on it, but the situation I was in that led me to all the issues that I have there was a lot of forced pills and alcohol on me so I am scared I could get like that although I have never felt that way. I suppose it is just my head playing games with me and I should talk more with my Psychiatrist and Therapist about it. Thank You again for your helpful response.
