Unhappy Cravings are Calling - May 10th 2012, 11:47 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of substance use, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Hey,

I just needed somewhere to vent and seek advice.

As per my previous threads,
I physically and psychologically feel i'm slipping back into Alcohol addiction, and going back to smoking cannabis is tempting me again, too.

The cravings, albeit in a more minimal way, are starting again in the morning, and i'm starting to drain my dad of his financial resources again.

I've been with a Drugs and Alcohol service in the past, and been in and out of AA for a few years too, in fact i was thinking of attending a meeting tonight with one of my best friends who also has substance abuse issues, if i can get the money together and work out a route to get there by bus.

I've taken my full daily dose (1mg) of Clonazepam (benzo) which helps with withdrawal symptoms and lessens cravings, which is taking the edge off a bit, but i'm still seeking to get some alcohol soon, when I can hold of some money. I don't touch pure spirits anymore, just big bottles of alcopops/wine coolers and beers, but i can feel the spiralling happening.

I just need some support, and any tips/advice on how to cope, generally, in the meantime.

Please help?

Michy.

And I was in the darkness,
So darkness I became.

Re: Cravings are Calling - May 10th 2012, 03:08 PM

this may not help to be honest but i sit in the pub drinking cokes i can feel the cravings like you say but i made a promise to only drink on Wednesdays with my friends.

My friends that i drink with have learning difficulties so i never get badly drunk because i look after them and make sure they get home safe.

Beyond that all i can suggest is maybe seek a medical dose increase perhaps, get back in touch with the local alcohol team that may help you.

Or challenge yourself to not drink by sitting in a pub.

Its crappy advice i know

When i drink alone i can barely handle 4 cans, but i find the challenge of sitting in a pub and not drinking to be well a challenge

Welcome sorry i cant help more.

I have read your profile still you might want to re engage with them.

Re: Cravings are Calling - May 10th 2012, 04:36 PM

lol when im with my Brother Andy i can knock them back like they don't matter hence my screwed up liver at my worst i was downing 100 units a week for 2 years more or less.

I don't think i have a problem cos when i'm drunk i understand and when i understand i fight against a situation when i'm sober its more difficult.

its worth considering

I know what you mean, completely...

That amount is still liver/body/mind ruination, but I hope you find a better, healthier path, like me, again.

Re: Cravings are Calling - May 11th 2012, 09:46 AM

I'm sorry if this doesn't help much because I have no prior experience with addiction, but what I do know is that those cravings are probably VERY strong.
Maybe you could start doing rewards for yourself like many do when fighting SH, only this time direct it towards your cravings?
So for example you could say to yourself, "If I go a week without smoking cannabis/drinking I will do something I love with friends." or something along those lines. It of course doesn't have to be a week- start out with as much time as you are comfortable with- and you could even do things like make yourself something or buy yourself something. But if you can come up with rewards that don't cost much so you can save up for AA meetings or whatever you wanna save for, all the better!
Also, maybe you could keep a motivation journal? Fill it with sayings and stuff that might keep you going without drinking or smoking, or have family/friends write messages in it, or even write about times where you overcame the cravings and how you did it. Whatever you think might help, write it!
I hope this helps you!
