Unhappy Help? - May 18th 2012, 06:21 PM

yeah yeah yeah. If I am gonna get a long message saying, JUST STOP. Don't bother to post. Please. I am 15 years old. A minor alcholic and drug abuser. I try to stop, I really do. Its not that I go out and get it myself, Im not that person... But most of my friends do the same thing. And when ever they have it, and they always do. They offer me some. I just can't say no. I drink abosolutely anything, expecially vodka. But I only smoke. Cigs and sometimes, weed. I know its sooo bad. Please help.

I know what you mean. Like it's one thing to have somebody tell you to stop and another thing to personally go through it. It took me a long time to finally quit everything I was doing, and sometimes I still miss it. I guess you just have to look at the pros and cons of what you're doing and decide what you want. And if/when you decide to quit, start small. Going cold turkey just makes everything suck a lot more. If you want to talk let me know. Good luck!

Do you want to stop or are you content with your addictions?

I don't want to stop, but I need to. My family does not make enough money, and I can't get a job if I am fucked up most of the time. I have been going "cold turkey" for about a month and a half from smokeing and 2 weeks from drinking, it sucks... Expecially at the same time.

Do you know why you started abusing drugs? Oftentimes the first step to recovery is figuring out why you do it.

Re: Help? - May 20th 2012, 04:54 AM

I started in 5th grade because thats when everything went downhill.
1.) my best friend and bf died in a car accident.
2.) my grandma died of cancer.
3.) my doctor told me I have a good chance of getting it.
4.) I started being molested by my mom's boyfriend(ex-now).
5.) I had no one there to tell me no, or to stop me, or to help me with all this...

Those are valid reasons, and I want you to know I'm very sorry for the hardships you've experienced. I'd also like you to know that I'm not judging you. I struggle with alcohol use as well and I will never say I know what you're going through (because it makes me mad when people say it to me) but I understand the pain.

Do you know what your triggers are?

My triggers can be anything. From someone saying the wrong thing, to going through another hardship.
I do not mind if people say that they know what I am going through, because atleast I know I am not alone in all of it.

It might be a good idea to try and identify some of your major triggers, because once you do that you can figure out how to work with them.
Some tips for when you are triggered or have cravings:
Write in a journal
Go for a walk
Call a friend
Draw a picture
Bake something
Watch television
Go on the computer
Swim, bike, or run
Clean something
Breathe

I hope this helps you.

Hey Michayla,

With drugs and alcohol an addiction can really creep up on you. Little issues turn into big issues and habits can get out of control. You just need to know what's good for you and try your hardest to say no. Just find that inner strength and make yourself a better person one correction at a time.

No ones perfect, I'm certainly not just try to make the right choices otherwise it could get harder.
