Inspiration Stories - November 22nd 2015, 10:53 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of substance use, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I want to start a thread for recovery for substance use where we can share are inspiration stories with one another. This thread is meant to be a safe, positive, recovery focused thread.

Let's post our inspiration stories of over coming a substance use if that is any type of drug or alcohol. If you are still struggling with substance use but have stopped using post why you stop using and what that meant for you. It's important to remind ourselves why we stopped in the first place. If you are still struggling think of a time when you did stop using and how it made you feel.

Please follow the CoC on TeenHelp when posting. Please don't use any grams, mg, etc., attached to drugs. I've placed a triggering prefix for substance use, keep in mind that this is for recovery and inspiration where other users can read. Everyone needs inspiration.

CoC says:

Quote:
Substance use (including recipes, locations to obtain drugs or alcohol, or unsafe methods to take drugs).
My inspiration story is: When I was a teenager, I was 17 years old and abused over the counter drugs, I OD and almost died (I had the courage to call 911 for help). I realized how much life is important and how fragile it can be. Now, I am cautious on taking any sort of medication because it makes me feel uneasy. What I learned was the value of life and what that means, it made me a stronger person.

I haven't abused painkillers for about a year and a half now. The urges are still there, but I'm coping. It's extra difficult as I often need to take them to function due to chronic pain, so the temptation is always there. I have to keep reminding myself how awful that stay in hospital was and how I desperately don't want to end up there again.

Do you wanna come with me? 'Cause if you do, then I should warn you - you're gonna see all sorts of things. Ghosts from the past. Aliens from the future. The day the Earth died in a ball of flame. It won't be quiet, it won't be safe, and it won't be calm. But I'll tell you what it will be: The trip of a lifetime!

Don't trust a perfect person and don't trust a song that's flawless.
RIP Granddad Terry. I'll miss you.
