Ask her if she's smoking. If she says yes explain that you're worried about her health, your health, and who ever else may be effected by the second hand smoke.
If your mom is old enough to buy cigarettes she should be aware of the health complications they can cause, sometimes people just need to be reminded that throwing their health away affects more people around them than themselves.

Just be upfront with her. Ask her "Have you been smoking?"
It can go one of two ways. She'll either say that she has or she hasn't been. Regardless of her response, we are powerless over other people. We cannot control what other people do, the decisions they make, etc. The best thing you can do is talk to her about your concerns

I honestly would just ask her. She might say yes or she will say no. It doesn't hurt to ask at all.

I'd say just ask her. She could say no or she could say yes. Either way, ultimately you can't stop her or control what she does. If she says yes, just explain you are worried about her health, but don't get annoyed at her, people have lots of reasons why they start smoking and getting annoyed won't help anything. If she wants help, she can get it but you can't force her to.

I would talk to her about it and voice your concerns. At the end of the day though, it's her decision to smoke or not.

Re: mom smoking - January 23rd 2016, 12:27 AM

I will say this - if my mom started smoking, then I'd be thrilled because then she'd stop getting on my case about me smoking. Plus I could bum cigs off of her so I wouldn't have to buy my own pack! Though I am 24 years old. I am legally allowed to smoke cigarettes. I do not condone smoking for anyone who is under 18.
