2 Months Clean - May 13th 2016, 05:12 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of substance use, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Well I recovered from self harm about a year ago, and have been clean since, but around 5 months ago I fell into a little bit of a rut with drugs. Pills, Opiates and Xanax, which were just a new form of Self destruction for me. I did not abuse them that much but it did get to the point where it was weekly and I started craving them.

I got my act together two months ago, quit cold turkey, and I've been clean since. It's been getting kind of hard, especially since I've realized how enabling my friends could be. They don't seem to view drugs as bad, which really stopped me from thinking about the consequences. It's also difficult because honestly the high just felt so good.

Just looking for some advice on what to do, like things to do when I feel the urge to use again. Anything helps. Thanks.

Have you tried finding a support group? Maybe a group of recovering addicts? Check out Narcotics Anonymous in your area <3

we've escaped our capture

Laugh loudly, sing like no one's listening, dance like no one's watching, stay in the moment, get that adrenaline pumpin', deep breaths, be easy on yourself <3 PM me

Welcome to TeenHelp lost505, I am glad you reached out to explain what is going on for you. It's a huge step forward.

I want to congratulate you on being 2 months clean, that is worth celebrating.

Do you have anyone in your life that you can trust with what is going on for you? Not sure if you have a counselor or therapist, being able to talk about our feelings can be very helpful. While going cold turkey did you reach out to Addictions Support in your area? They are really helpful, the provide you with a lot of support.

Some things that come to mind for me when you have urges are, if you like or enjoy sports you can join a sport, being active is healthy to manage the feelings you have. Sometimes if sports isn't your thing there is drawing (you could be creative and draw your feelings or create a story that is positive about your goals to not use drugs) you could play an instrument and express your feelings through music, sometimes joining a club in our interest of that particular topic can help us get busy.

Those are just a few things off the top of my head. Here on TeenHelp we have a Resources section where you can find websites or things to do, to help you. So, I've pulled a few of those things off the page for you.

RehabInfo.net is a comprehensive guide for the entire treatment process for addiction – from spotting issues to finding and enrolling into rehabilitation.

NIDA Information for Students and Young Adults
This website provides educational resources and materials about a multitude of different substances, and is geared towards students and young adults.

There is many other supports on our Resources page, I listed two that might be beneficial for you to look through.

If you need anything feel free to reply or send me a message.
Take care.
