Weed Question - August 9th 2009, 12:30 AM

I LOVE GETTING HIGH! but i cant find out if its bad for my heart or not
i have SVT and a heart murmur. (both light versions tho but still have them) so i limit myself to smoking on the friday usually a party or what not then the saturday morning after to wake and bake with whats left (once a week)
i was just wondering if i used other methods, like vaporization, weed brownies, weed butter, weed tea. will thc still effect my heart. or is the only thing that effects your heart when smoking marijuana in the actual intake of carcinogens & not the thc itself?

hey

I can tell you that ingesting thc rather than smoking it gives u a much more intense high.

other than the carcinogens in the smoke, when you smoke weed / ingest it, it makes your heart beat really quick for a short time and also heightens your blood pressure for a short period of time also, thats why you get red eye.

I wouldn't advise you to keep smoking weed if you have a heart condition, but thats your choice.

How does marijuana affect the heart?
Marijuana use increases the heart rate as much as 50 percent, depending on the amount of THC. It can cause chest pain in people who have a poor blood supply to the heart - and it produces these effects more rapidly than tobacco smoke does.

How does marijuana affect the lungs?
Scientists believe that marijuana can be especially harmful to the lungs because users often inhale the unfiltered smoke deeply and hold it in their lungs as long as possible. Therefore, the smoke is in contact with lung tissues for long periods of time, which irritates the lungs and damages the way they work. Marijuana smoke contains some of the same ingredients in tobacco smoke that can cause emphysema and cancer. In addition, many marijuana users also smoke cigarettes; the combined effects of smoking these two substances creates an increased health risk.

No matter how you intake the pot, you're going to be affecting your heart because the manner in which you take weed only affects your lungs. THC will still mess with your heart if you smoke it or eat it. The only think you're changing by not smoking the weed is its affects it might have on your lungs. If you're worried about the risk, I would recommend you stop weed. It does mess with your heart rhythm and you would rather be safe than sorry.

You should speak to your doctor about it, most of them are more than happy to tell you what's safe for you and not.

I speak to my psychiatrist alot about drugs are safe to do with my meds, I'm sure your doctor would do the same.

yes it speeds up your heart rate. if you have a heart problem then in my opinion it's very foolish to smoke weed because you're just asking for problems.

No matter how you get the THC into you, one way or another it's going to affect your heart. If you smoke it though, you have the added damage on your lungs and respiratory system, which in turn affects your heart even more. If you don't smoke it, then you avoid the damage to your respiratory system, however, you'll still get all the carcinogens and the THC affecting your heart.

To make it simple, don't smoke it or let it find its way into you and your heart will be better off.
