Need to let off some steam - August 14th 2009, 08:10 PM

Ok so i have spent my whole life as the anti-drug. I'm practically the guy in the commercials. Every day I go places and hang in pot circles not smoking because i am against it. My family even smokes weed, alot, and i still don't. But heres what i found out lately. I had to write a 15 page report on the marijuana; the health affects and its history. I used 20 times the required number of sources (literally, i counted it out) and so i'm certain my understanding is truth. I've been to college libraries and read many medical reports and i got an A+ on the paper. So here is my steam...

Turns out that the whole government propaganda scheme started as an attempt to promote racism against Mexican immigrants who commonly smoked the plant. Turns out its not really twenty times stronger than it was in the 60's 70's etc. That was a report that took the best of weed and compared it to 30 year old schwag (Terrible weed) that sat in a police locker in Mexico. BUT, if it were stronger, that would mean smoking less to get high, which would be beneficial to health. Thats just a few of the facts but feel free to ask me about any health myths of marijuana, that is if you trust me. But anyway, to the point. I found that Abovetheinfluence.com is the biggest load i've ever read. Extremely biased info, that only someone who knew about drugs would catch. Polls that used different answers, but all of which were anti-drug answers. The whole site is ridiculous. Thats why i'm here. So, i'm good now.

EDIT: First post! woo

Well, of course Above The Influence campeign will be extremely bias, they are, after all, anti-drug. Yes, it's a dirty way to convince people not to do drugs, but those selling drugs are just as dirty.

Honestly, even if I were to read the most amazing essay or report on marijuana in the world, one that prooved that it had no health risks what so ever, I would still never give up my fight against it.

I am, as well, extremely against drugs and alcohol. I don't know if these findings have made you reconsider how you feel, but perhaps then you were against it for the wrong reasons in the first place. The simple, undeniable fact, is that it impairs your ability to think properly, just like any other drug or alcohol. You are, in a way, giving up control of your actions to a substance, which is reason enough for me to be completely against it. People do stupid stuff on weed all the time, and then when they are asked why they did said things their excuse is "I was high", blaming it solely on that, when infact it was their fault for being high in the first place. People just shrug it off- "Oh, you were high? So, you really didn't mean to rape that girl?"

So, yes, I am totally for that website remaining "ridiculous" because their AIM is to stop drug use, in which their will argue their cause with information that will favor them. Those who argue for weed being legalized will do the same exact thing.

But, that is just my opinion and rant. If your mind has been changed because of what you found, I'm sorry that you were anti-drug for the wrong reason. I, personally, like to stay coherent and make decisions I mean to make, and I can't blame anyone- or anything- for my actions.

Well i'd like to say that i love your chocobo and your cactuar but i'm not sure what the other thing is. But i think your view is a bit out of focus as far as the actual effects. Using rape as an example is a bit extreme. Maybe, "I forgot to brush my teeth cuz i was high." but from my experience that is as far as it goes. Honestly, blaming something on weed is like blaming something on not getting enough sleep, or being hungry. The impairments aren't as severe as you come off to think. I'm not trying to change you, but being high doesn't surrender your control. Now i'm sure you will be able to see me through this example. You know the kind of people that base all their actions on impressing who they're with? Those people may act differently because weed will make them act more like themselves but it certainly doesn't make you act less like yourselves.
I agree with your second paragraph entirely. Everyone who supports one way or the other is bias.
As for my reason to be anti-drug. I was opposed because people group weed with real drugs that cause noticeable harm. My reasons for not doing something were because they would hurt me. But now i understand that its as good for me as it is bad.

I definitely agree with the previous poster. Msbunnykins I believe you're a bit misled on the actual effects of Marijuana. The herb does not impair your judgment to the point of doing awful things like committing rape or making a complete ass out of yourself. That's going pretty overboard. Also, I do not know of nor have I ever heard of anyone committing a despicable crime and their excuse was "because I was high." Pot makes you silly, giggly and hungry. Although of course, like any other substance Marijuana comes with consequences and downfalls, but not nearly as bad as you seem to think.
