I can't stop drinking - August 26th 2009, 05:16 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Since atleast last Thursday, so around a week ago, I've been drinking more or less constantly, I'm always drunk or smoking myself to death. I think it's too keep me calm but I'm losing it now. I went out on Friday and got hammered with my next door neighbours, I wasn't sick but I felt like crap the next day. Then on Saturday I was so desperate to drink that I headed to my mates and once again got literally mashed, I had to be carried home and it was rather embarassing, but I enjoy myself, yet I feel so crap, even though I was sick I can't wait to get into that drunken state again. I'm not eating either so when I drink it just goes to my head and I feel so high on life, it's an amazing feeling and I guess now I'm 18 drinking is one of my main hobbies. I'm going out this Friday and I know I'll do something I'll regret or say something stupid and it's getting to the point where I need to drink to stay alive, lol.

My Mum thinks it's Natural at my age but I disagree, what should I do? I'm getting worried about myself now.

Re: I can't stop drinking - August 26th 2009, 05:24 PM

i dont think this is good for you.
your drinking to get drunk or to "get away" from your problems.
you should use alcohol to mask you pain, it will only ruin your life.
you dont want to become and alcoholic at 18 do you?
saying you need a drink to stay alive is scary, because that mean your on a bad path.

i know you dont need to drink to be alive or feel alive, i think you should try and stop, maybe go out with friends to places where there isnt alcohol.

having a few drinks socially is okay but doing it to get drunk isnt!

if it continues to get worse you should go and talk to someone about it.
cause obviously yout worried about it.

good luck!

Re: I can't stop drinking - August 26th 2009, 05:33 PM

I know. It's got to the point where only one person is to blame for this, making me run away from the truth and hurt. I wish I could just walk away from all my problems but everyday they get worse and drinking sends me to an almost "happy" place where I forget about them until the next day, when the second i'm up i have a fag to calm myself down.

i need help, lol.

well adleast you admitting it.
because you drinking like this is unhealthy, you cant drown your problems
as much as you may like to, you have to find a healthy outlet.

doing like this could destroy your life.
you should try facing your problems head on or talk to someone about them.

maybe try aa if you think you need it.

It is NOT natural. You have done the first step which is to reach out for help. One tip may be out in public to not have your ID on you this way it would make it hard to buy a drink.

its good you see what you are doing to yourself is bad, but you have the power to control it. next time you pick up a drink, put it down. slowly start getting off cigs. see a doctor, they can help. good luck =]

Re: I can't stop drinking - August 27th 2009, 12:23 PM

It seems as if you realise you've got a problem but you aren't doing anything about it. You have no-one but yourself to blame because you can easily say no but you don't drink for fun, you drink to get drunk and if your doing it constantly you're not going to do your body any good. You need to give yourself a limit of how much you drink when you go out or when your at home and stick to it. It's easier said then done especially if others are drinking around you and you're trying to stop but in the long run your going to feel a lot better, it'll do you a lot of good and I doubt you want to become an alcoholic.

You've just got to find that effort and put it into sorting yourself out and stopping this before it gets even more out of hand then it already has. I'm sure if you told people how bad it is and how you want to change it, they'll support you which will help you get that extra push to do it.

Re: I can't stop drinking - August 30th 2009, 04:22 AM

I know what you mean. When your drunk, you forget about everything thats going on and your so, light that you float away from your problems and have a good time.
But when you fall back down is even harder. You make mistakes when your drunk, and now you have that on top of everything else you had before you got drunk. So you drink again and again and things build up.
Its a vicious cycle. But one you can break. Its going to be hard, but with some help and some good friends, I think you can overcome the urge to drink so much and maybe be able to just have one drink and be fine.
Good luck.
