How can I help - October 3rd 2009, 10:19 AM

Alright guys, Im stuck in a situation. I have an ex best friend who is using drugs. Me and her were the very best of friends now we bearly act like friends cause she is involved with the wrong crowd and is doing the wrong things. She had a very bad childhood and she has been doing drugs since she was like 11. She is on and off and tries to clean up sometimes but she always finds her way back to it. I feel like I have lost a great friend due to this and I dont know what to do to help. She is 17 and still in high school and will be 18 soon and I want to help before she turns 18 and has no parents to answer to. I am very worried, and some people say move on from the friendship but it really isnt that easy, I am acctually losing a best friend to drugs. How can I help? Someone please tell me something.

What exactly is she doing that you think is destructive to herself? Is she not doing well in school? Is she alienating herself from good things in life like productive activites etc.? If you honestly believe that she is hurting herself and doing damage to others and threatening her own life then tell someone immediately. If not, then just leave it alone and let her run her course in drugs. It's not easy, but sometimes you just have to let go.
