Question My first week of smoking - May 3rd 2010, 07:04 AM

So I have an addictive personality. Majorly. And I started smoking this week. I'm a little worried. But I really don't wanna stop. Idk. I just need some advice on how you guys have handled or would handle it. Facts about smoking. I don't really know what I need. If smoking turns into as big of a problem as cutting did... I'm fucked...

Hey Han,
I know what you mean by having the addictive personality (ADHD, it sucks ). I have been smoking since I was 14. I am now 23. Just an hour ago marked 3 days I've been smoke free. I will be blunt and upfront; quit while your ahead. Smoking is getting more and more dangerous. So many chemicals and junk that your body doesn't need. For the past day and a half, my body has been violently shaking and craving nicotine so bad I've almost considered robbing a convenience store just to feed a dumb addiction. And this is only after three days. One alternative I used to use to help quit smoking for random periods of time was writing out stuff, whether it was short stories or a journal...And in the journal I would write down how many days had passed before I had a cigarette. Then after a certain period I would treat myself to some candy. Smoking is a tough addiction to break. It's harder to break then any other illegal drug on the street.
Tbh, I'm surprised I'm doing this well I don't want to see anyone go through this. It isn't cool. Plus smoking KILLS your budget! I don't know how many times I would roll up pennies and/or pick them up off the street, just so I could afford them. Sad I know. Try some alternatives instead of smoking like, running, draw what you feel, start browsing for new music, hang out with friends, talk with friends, play some video games. If you need to talk, just PM me anytime

I smoked for 3-4 years and have been clean for almost a half a year. I highly recommend quitting while you can. Take advice from us who smoked too long. It isn't worth the risk.

Re: My first week of smoking - May 4th 2010, 04:29 PM

i smoked for two years... it made me feel like crap after a while. i couldn't breathe at all even walking up a hill. It made me smell bad... it made my skin crappy... it made my teeth yellow... it gives you ugly wrinkly leathery skin in the long run... the smoke sticks to everything. I know what it does because my mom and dad have addictive personalities... it took my dad over 30 years to stop and my mother still does it... she smokes so much that she will light up another ciggarette when there is still one in the ashtray burning.... she caughs up a lung every few minutes...she looks and smells terrible... she has COPD now, she is only 50 and she could drop dead at any moment, but she refuses to stop she says.... "I'll stop when there is no more stress" yeah, thats her excuse. The cons are way worse than any of the pros and im glad i stopped when i did. And i know what they've done to my georgous mother... i hate it.
