Experiences? - April 29th 2011, 12:39 PM

Hey everyone.

I've started writing a story recently about a girl who wakes up in an inpatient unit with no recollection of the past 18 years of her life. It's set 3 years later and she's just starting to have flashbacks and remember her life before treatment. One of the reasons I wanted her to be in inpatient was due to drug and alcohol abuse but I don't have any experience with this to make it seem more realistic when she's remembering.
So what I need all you lovely TH people for, is to just post here with your experiences with drugs/alcohol.
How did it make you feel physically and mentally/emotionally?
Was what you could hear/see any different from when you're not under the influence?
What were you thinking at the time, before, during and after?

Any experience or advice you can give me here with this would be great because I'm really excited about this and how I can see it working out in my mind.

Thanks in advance for any replies, everything will be appreciated.

Edit: I've PMed Rob about this to make sure it's alright and no names or personal information will be used anywhere.

I'm not sure if your looking for good or bad experiences on drugs/alcohol but I'll tell you what weed does to me I guess lol.
After I smoke weed, I feel light. For me, my mind drops all the stress, drama, pain. Sometimes if I'm depressed though I feel numb after and it just makes it worse..
Smoking weed is like an escape in a way. (If your character is a drug abuser maybe thats why they started doing drugs?) It clears your mind most of the time.
Physically it makes you slower on reaction time..and thinking. And some people's memories start to fade as well...I personally have a hard time remembering things once in awhile.
Emotionally, weed can cause a lot of things. My friend had a schizophrenic attack after we smoked a lot. My brother has depression and really bad anxiety, he already had both but smoking weed made them a lot worse.
Uhhmmm everything sounds and looks the same. The thing I think about before I get high; smoking weed
during; everything and anything..sometimes really deep stuff, other times pointless crap lol
after; You feel burnt out (tired), you usually want to eat food..but that can happen during the high too. I don't really know what I think about after.
Hopefully this helps..if you want specific stories you could message me
And as for alcohol, I just feel great while drinking so I can't really help with that.
Good luck with your story!

As a writer I can tell you you're wasting time writing about something you have no knowledge of. Look at nay fiction writer bar fantasy and sci-fi, they write and base things on personal experience or expeiences they've seen other people go through.

I've tried to write about things ive no experience of several times and each attempt always resulted in failure.
