misdiagnosed ADHD?? -

So about two years ago i was diagnosed with adhd and was prescribed adderall. Now i am on Concerta. I feel as though it makes me a zombie and i dont like that feeling however if i dont take concerta i sleep non stop. I have a feeling iam physcially addicted to this drug and its suppose to help me concentrate and all i do is sleep and i have become very moody and hate doing things I use to love.... can any1 else relate??

Have you talked to your prescribing doctor about this? You probably should, considering medication is supposed to help you, and it doesn't sound like it is.

the thing is i am scared to talk to my doctor about it because i dont want to be taken off of it. when iam off of it i sleep all the time n the symptoms are worse

Well, Concerta is not the only medication available for ADHD. Do, even if your doctor DID take you off of it, I imagine you'd be put on something else.

Welcome to TeenHelp!
Maybe you should try to get off the medication for a while and just see how you do without it. My brother had very similar symptoms with Concerta, he was never hungry. After a while my dad said that was enough and stopped it, since then he’s been fine and hasn’t complained about any issues since regarding ADHD. I’d tell your doctor if you feel as though there’s an addiction, that can grow into a really big problem and you simply don’t want that stress.

Hi. I was diagnosed with ADHD age 5. I was not medicated till age 7. I was first put on a medication called Ritalin, ( I would guess simmilar to Adderal.) which did work but tended to dip during the day and I would have to take another one at lunchtime, /mid-day. I then got moved to concerta which made me feel like a zombie. With me it did help me concentrate, and calmed me down quite abit, maybe talk to your docotor and see if they can lower the doassage of the concerta a-bit. Concerta is a much strong form of adderall/ritalin so it might be that the doassage you are taking is a too higher dossage for you. The best thing to do would be to talk to your doctor.

ADHD is grossly overdiagnosed and misdiagnosed. It seems, however, your question isn't if it was misdiagnosed, rather if anyone else has had experiences with certain medication.

Hey hun, You really need to talk to your doctor and tell him/her everything that you've written here.
Also know that ADHD is really over diagnosised, and like over 80% of ADHD medication produced in the world is perscribed in the US. |
