Angry How to convince my parents to get a divorce?! - August 21st 2012, 02:41 PM

OK, don't get me wrong. It's just that they're always fighting and I can't tolerate it. Mum told me that she isn't leaving for my sake but frankly, I'd be happier if they separate. I'm sick & tired of all the shouting and fighting. We'd all be peaceful if they separate.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Why don't you just tell your mom that's how you feel? That would be the easiest thing to do.

I've said it once, I've said it twice, I've said it a thousand fucking times
That I'm OK, that I'm fine, that it's all just in my mind
But this has got the best of me, and I can't seem to sleep
It's not 'cause you're not with me, it's cause you never leave

I agree with George. Tell your mom how this fighting is negatively affecting you, and that you wouldn't want her to stay in the relationship simply for your sake! That being said, it's ultimately her decision on whether or not to get a divorce (saying she doesn't want to leave "for your sake" could simply be an excuse, and she may come up with another one, and another one, and another one...). You can tell her how you feel, but don't pressure her to do anything, ex. threatening to not speak to her if she won't file for a divorce.

Well, I did talk to her but she just went, "I know you won't be able to manage without me. No matter what you say. Otherwise I'd have filed for a divorce ages ago." -_-
Uh, seriously?!

I think you need to be more official with your communication about this. Making a passing comment or an off the cuff exclamation about the topic might not make your parents feel like you are serious. I would first suggest making a list of everything you feel is going wrong at the moment. And then a list of suggestions on what you feel would make these problems better. And they all shouldn't be "get a divorce". But if you are tired of them yelling, let them know that you would prefer if they found a more constructive way of resolving conflicts. Maybe a family counselor? Show them that you have put time and effort into this decision and that their actions severely affect your well being. Sit down with them both together at a time where everyone can be focused. Not at dinner or right before school. This will force everyone to talk and think about the situation.
If you feel you can not confront your parents about this, then leave a copy of your list for both of them in a place where you know they will find it. And then let them come to you. I think both of these processes will open up the topic for discussion.
