Unhappy Best friend going downhill - November 11th 2012, 02:24 PM

Ok so I have been best friends with this girl for five years and we've been through everything together. She always been a nice, sweet girl. And about four months ago she became close with another girl who wasn't all that classy. Ever since she's been friends with her she's started wearing trashy clothes, doing drugs, drinking, bullying people, and having sex. We're only fourteen. I'm scared that she's just going to keep going downhill and I have no idea why to do. And whenever I talk to her about it she doesn't even care. Please help

You're a very loyal friend .

And, whilst it shouldn't really be your responsibility (so, if you're too uncomfortable with anything I suggest, remember that it's not actually your responsibility, and that you can try and help other ways if you want), I think you need to make her see sense.

Easier said than done, I know.
Peer pressure, I'm guessing, is a largely contributing factor here. Humans naturally join in with what those around them do, as I'm sure you know.

Anyway, you really need to get her to stop hanging around with the other...irresponsible girls. You need to do it in a way that respects the fact that she should be able to choose who she is friends with, but you also definitely need to stop her being with them.

She's probably not really aware (or is ignoring what she knows) about the dangers of some of the things she's doing - underage drinking, intercourse, etc. However, you're going to need to find a way to get through to her before quoting a load of statistics and facts about dangers at her.

Explain that you care, and that all you're trying to do is to help her, and then say that you're really worried about things like her drinking, and having sex; remind her of who she is at heart (a really kind girl, and your best friend!)...I'm not sure whether you should plead at all; probably not, as it's likely to make her ignore you.

I hope this helps?

Skittlify me up...
