making friends in the real world - October 29th 2013, 08:54 AM

Alright so my question is pretty straightforward. How do you make friends in the real world? Outside of school, I mean. I'm homeschooled and live in a smaller town that's not super small but too small to have things like sports and groups and whatnot. Being that I don't get to meet people at school, how/where would I be able to meet people at? There's a park that I've thought about hanging out at but I feel that I would seem odd being at the park for no reason. I don't really have a mall or anywhere that I could go to to meet other people my age. I've considered making a facebook and just sending a message to some other people in my area (there are a lot on facebook) but I feel that would also be odd since I wouldn't have a friend in common or anything like that. I'd just be a random guy that found their facebook. So like I've already asked, how do you make friends in the real world? I'd love some advice on this, thanks!

Well, commonly I tell people that joining sports, clubs, groups, or even getting a part time job will help them build friendships (which is very true). But as you said, you live in a smaller town which may not have groups/teams like that. So, my advice is try to search for some groups/clubs around town, and/or go to that park sometime to talk to some people too. If you feel comfortable, make a facebook and message a few people. Sure, you may think it's weird, but you have to start building friendships somehow. Don't try to analyze the situation and the actions you may have to take. Over analyzing will definitely cause more harm than good in a situation like this. In regards to facebook/online, be cautious in who you talk to/contact as it may not be the person you think it is.

So, just be yourself, push yourself to communicate alittle more, and go meet some new people around town (either physically, or via facebook/other means).

Best wishes,

I hope you know that you deserve it all. The best, the most honest, the most beautiful purest love in the world. Not only to be loved by others, but to be loved by yourself. To look in the mirror and think "Yes, I'm exactly who I want to be". To speak up and be proud of yourself. To be brave and open. You deserve the nicest and most caring people to walk into your life. You deserve it all, you know. The whole world...

There has to be somewhere or some events that people come together for in your community. Your best bet might be finding out what those are and going.
