Question Sigh - August 27th 2017, 05:52 AM

I feel that my family is very dysfunctional.
Here is why.
1. My parents divorced when I was 2. My dad lives in London and we live in California and I have not seen him for 8 years.
2. I only have one outfit.
3. We always either have spaghetti, peanut butter sandwiches, Chinese takeout, Japanese takeout, or pepperoni pizza for dinner. We have a tiny house ( like, a hotel room size house) so I always eat in the kitchen reading, my mom eats in her bedroom, and my 8 year old sister eats in her room playing on her phone , tablet, or computer or reading while listening to music.
4. I only have one outfit. My sister saves her money and right now she has 2,950 dollars, which is why she has lots of clothes.
We are happy. I just wanna know if we might be dysfunctional.

It is hard to say whether or not a family is dysfunctional or normal because there isn't always such a thing as normal, and there are many different types of families. However, if you feel like your family is dysfunctional perhaps it is; you are the one who lives there and knows what occurs while no one else here has the same perspective as you do.

Do you ever feel like eating dinner with your mom and your sister? I know you said you have a small house but if that is important to you, perhaps you could try to make it work. You don't have to eat together every night. You could try once or twice a week for a change of pace.

You mentioned only having one outfit and you said your sister saves her money. Do you have a good relationship with your sister? Perhaps you could ask to borrow some money so you could shop for new clothes. If you aren't opposed to thrift shopping you could give that a try. A lot of times, you can get new or barely used clothes at inexpensive costs.

Hello, and thank you for sharing this you did a wonderful job.
I agree with what Cassado is saying, can you try and see if you can all eat together as a family a few times a week? Ask your mom and sister if they can sit down with you when it's time for dinner, and start the conversation. And ask how did it go for them that day. Also, tell them what is going on with you in school and ask your sister questions too. Also I like the idea of asking your sister if you can borrow some of her money, so that you can get more outfits. Can you ask your mom if you can do chores around the house and get paid for them and save your money too for outfits? Can you also ask your friends if you can borrow some what they're wearing too?
If can be hard when you are only living with one parent, and you don't get to see the other one. I hope that everything works out for you. And I youwill be ok.
Lots of hugs.

Earlier I sold some old toys in good condition and made 50 dollars! I went to a thrift store and got some cute and cheap clothes! I only spent $10 of my money, and I'm going to sell more stuff tomorrow!

After I talked to my mom about the dinner situation, she said we can do it on Mondays and Fridays!

Also, I sold some friendship bracelets that I made today! I didn't make as much money, because I had school, but I did make $20!
