I don't know! - January 10th 2018, 01:22 AM

My mom has four lumps in her stomach. One doctor said it's one thing, another said maybe cancer. I don't know what to believe. I'm so scared right now everything has to be ok. I have to be strong and not scared and I don't know how to do that. She is going for more test. I don't know what I am asking for, I'm sorry for that.

It's okay to be scared. I know that you may feel you have to be strong for your mom, but since no-one has given a definite answer as to what the lumps may be, it's natural to be scared given the uncertainty.

It's good that your mom is going for more tests. Hopefully, the doctors will be able to give a diagnosis and they will discuss with your mom treatment options.

As hard as it may be, try to find ways of distracting yourself so that you aren't getting overwhelmed by the situation. It may be a little while to get a confirmation as to whether the lumps are cancer, and it might not be doing you any good, focussing on the situation.

There's also no need to apologise for not knowing what you are asking. We are here to listen and give support if we can, so if you feel scared, you can just talk to us about it. You could also talk to your mom about how you feel too, or anyone else that you trust.

Hang in there

I was going to tell my parents that I'm scared and my sister told me not to upset my parents about this and keep it to myself. She's having more tests Monday.

I understand where your sister is coming from, and it can be natural when a parent is facing illness, to think that we have to be strong to avoid upsetting them. But parents will understand that you are worried, and this is natural. You are unlikely to be upsetting them.

Whether you choose to tell them now or later on, it's best that you do share your worries with them, or at least someone you trust. It can be much harder trying to deal with things on your own.

If you can't talk to someoneordon't want to talk to someone, you can consider journaling or blogging here on TeenHelp so you can release your feelings in a healthy way.

I will bethinking of you and your family during this difficult time.
