Unhappy my parents are my prision gaurds - June 14th 2009, 09:43 PM

Okay, i am typing this with a cool head, so i am asking for any advice on what to do.
First of all, my parents have MAJOR controll issues, i feel like my house is a prision. My father is not verry bad when my mom isnt around(she works out of town, only home in summers and weekends, the only time i ever want to do anything) what they tell me to do is bad enough, but they also give off this "I am your creator, and your master, so you will do what i say" My Uncle's dog has more freedom than i do, and i say this without exaggeration.
I asked my older sister what to do, and at first she said just to tuff it out and said that i was exaggerating, but then she spent a weekend with them and she was bossed nearly constantly, and she's twenty five and married, so i know this is not something that will get better with time.
To top it off, my parents are the BIGGEST hippocrites on earth, witch annoys the living hell out of me. My siblings wont even take any of their "gifts" anymore, because its like making a deal with the devil, they see it as i gave you something, i controll you. They gave me a car, any time i want to do ANYTHING they say, well you've got this nice car, bla bla bla, so yes, i do have a nice car, but i never get to use it, because i might as well be under house arrest.
I hate to rant like this, and trust me, there is more, and there is no reasoning with these people, they still try to control my sister and brother who dont even see them often, i have tryed to talk with them, but it is like they hear through a colidoscope, the msg they get, no matter how clearly i stated mine, is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. so any help will be appreacited, suicide is NOT an option.

Hi Taylor,

I'm glad you were able to get this out so well. Don't worry about ranting And you are definitely right- suicide is not an option. You are strong enough to deal with this, and I am confident that you will be able to pull through.

I think you used the perfect analogy when you said that your parents are your prison guards! It does sound like they are being unreasonable both to you and your siblings.

What I would suggest doing is not arguing back. Instead, write down exactly how you feel and what you want. Put your ideas clearly down on paper for them to see so that they cannot mix it up with their own words. Say what you would like to do, for how long, and why you would like to. Let them know that you do need to socialize, and your car is absolutely worthless if all it does is sit in the driveway. They need to hear that you need to spend time with your friends and that you are missing out on opportunities if you stay home.

Your parents do sound really strict. If you want to break the control, then tough it out for now, don't accept their gifts, and move out when you are old enough to move out. I know that there isn't a lot you can do while you are living with them, but once you are out of the house, it is your decision on whether or not you listen to them or spend time with them at all.

Stay strong, and hold in there!

Nat.

The great artists of our time are the ones who created something timeless. But it was never them defining it that way.
Everyone has a story. What's yours?
