Question My Sweet Sixteen - January 18th 2009, 10:13 AM

First off, I have no idea whatsoever where this goes so move it where need be.

So, my sweet 16 is in 3 months (exactly from today!) and my mom and I have been planning it and stuff.
My theme is Paris and the main colors are purple, silver, and black.
I need to find activities to do.
I don't dance. at all.
And since sweet 16's are all about dancing...thats a problem.
So what can I do at my party instead of dancing?

Thank youu for your help

Activities depend on your location, venue, budget, number & gender of guests and duration of the party.

You could have an "Eiffel Tower" house of cards building contest.
A mock wine tasting (use different fruit juices, sparkling or regular)
A fashion show
Caricature artist(s)
A french film/a film set in paris

Hope your party turns out well!

Think of what you would do in paris. I don't know your location or something but even go little kid again if you want.

Have an under the sea moon bounce (even college kids still go crazy about moon bounces)... You could if possible do those boat rides in the canal,

you could have a little kid to growing up with the paris theme-- so start with a moon bounce, then have a coloring table (with Paris coloring books), and next to that try the caricature paintings, maybe have a photo booth with a paris back drop, then have play make up out with some feather boas, and play jewelry and have everyone prep for a fashion show 12 year old style!, then while everyone is gathered and enjoying being together put on a movie followed by "wine and cheese", and then some other "more grown up" activity maybe a few professional make up artist for the girls to have their makeup done nicely and then play some board games..

you could just have a "social gathering" with food, people, and music. Let people talk and eat.

Hi Gina,

It would help to have some more reference as to what you want to do at your party. It's difficult to come up with suggestions just on a theme.
I think a 'wine' and cheese tasting would be good. That is grown up and French.
Other than that, why not a dance? Get everyone to dress up for it too.

What do you mean "It would help to have some more reference as to what you want to do at your party."?
like can you say that in a different way. haha,i feel dumb.

I don't dance. at all. and I don't listen to rap,and you can't really dance to rock and screamo. Well you could hardcore dance, but thats not my thing. or you could mosh. But i'll be wearing a dress,so that is out of the question. haha.

Re: My Sweet Sixteen - January 21st 2009, 06:50 PM

I just meant that I'm finding it difficult to think up ideas with just 'Paris' as a reference- that might be my problem, so don't worry too much!
I'm just trying to think about what happens in Paris that you could have at your party. All I can really come up with is French food and wine and cheese tasting. Maybe have some French music too.
Is this a large group or a small group? Depending on size, you could do different things. You could always try and get some people together and cook French food yourself.

I really hope you have an awesome sweet sixteen!

Re: My Sweet Sixteen - January 21st 2009, 07:06 PM

Well the activites don't have to be french things. I meant like things we could do like any kinds of cool games or whatever.
One thing I have so far is a questionnaire about me to see who knows me best. haha

It will probably be medium. Like 20-25 people.

Thanks

Oh and about the attire, I want to be the only one wearing a dress. But some of my friends think that thats not fair. What do you think I should do?
I want to be the only one wearing a dress because honestly, I don't want my friends to look better than me....

Re: My Sweet Sixteen - January 25th 2009, 07:37 PM

if your the only one in a dress what will your friends wear?
Some fun games are the "knot" game and the "number" game
The knot game is played by everyone standing in a circle and holding hands with people. The can't hold the hands of the person next to them and you can't hold both hands with the same person. then you try to untangle yourself.
The number game is played with everyone wandering around and one "leader". The "leader" calls out a number and you must get into a group w/ that number of people, anyone who doesn't get into a group is kicked out, and if your group has any number but said number everyone in that group is out.
OOOhhh... I just remembered another fun game! It's called Mafia. Everyone closes their eye's and the "narrator" taps someone one the shoulder. That person's the killer. Everyone goes around and shakes peoples hands and if you shake the killers hand and they scratch the inside of your palm you die. But you don't die right away, you wait a bit. Then you die as dramaticlly as you want. This goes on for some time and people try to guess who the killer is. They have to ask the narrator and the narrator tells them if their right or wrong.
OOOOOOOhhhh! I had another idea! You could have a muder mystery party! Every one loves muder mystry parties!
If these aren't enough ideas i'm sure theres hunderds more if you google "16th party ideas"

Hey Gina,

I'm sure you'll have lots of fun at your party! No worries. It's all about having fun and enjoying your sweet sixteen. Your friends will just be happy to hang out and celebrate with you.
Have you thought about doing a gift exchange? There's this activity that I did at one of my birthday parties once where I got a bunch of cool looking small gifts and wrapped them up. People draw numbers to see who goes first. The first person picks a present and opens it. The next person can either pick a new present or 'steal' the one the first person has. It goes on until the last person and the last person gets to choose through all the presents opened or the last unopened one. It's pretty fun and not at all girly. =)
But you should do what you think is fun! These are all just ideas. You get to choose what you like on your sweet sixteen, that's half the fun!

I hope you enjoy the party. Just don't sweat over it. It's a fun experience no matter what.

Nat.

Re: My Sweet Sixteen - January 27th 2009, 04:43 AM

Ooh. That gift exchange sounds really fun. We used to do that in Girl Scouts. haha
I might do that.

And another thing, for music, I want to plug my ipod into my speakers.
But my dad doesn't think that it will be loud enough for the room.
But I realllly don't want to get a DJ.
Anyone have any suggestions?

test it to see first.
If it's too quiet, burn a cd and use a boombox

I'm sorry but this really bothers me.
No,I'm not rich. While we're being honest,my father has been unemployed for the past 7 months. And I haven't been eating lunch because of it. So there ya go. My grandma and aunt are helping pay for it. And we're going cheap on alot of stuff, like dollar-store-plates.

Paris themed party...really....? It is just a theme. Some people want pirates and hula-themed parties. I want paris. I really love France. So there ya go.

I want to be the only one wearing a dress...yeah, because like I said, i'm unsecure with myself. Because I think my friends are prettier then I am. because some of my friends will steal the spotlight from me,and I want it to be my special day. Sweet sixteens are a big deal to most girls.

Now lets consider this, if I was rich, I would be saying "I want to buy all of my friends dresses!" not, "I want to be the only one wearing a dress."
It isn't like i'm buying some fancy dress from..idk, some name brand fancy thing, It'll be like JC Penny's or Dillard's or something like that.

Why do you have to be sterotypical? Seriously. You know nothing about me. Don't assume anything about me, or anyone for that matter, because as you can see, you were wrong. And you probably think i'm being a b*tch right now, but I really hate it when people assume everything about me. If you really knew me, you'd know that I'm a really nice person, and i'm pretty quiet. I'm never like this, as in mean.

And for the record, being stereotypical isn't funny.

Hey Gina,

I understand that Ellen's comment upset you. I'm sure she didn't mean to hurt your feelings and I think she was just curious. I know where I live a sweet sixteen party is a big thing and only some people can afford to put on a big get together. Maybe she was in the same situation?
I think Paris is a cool theme and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it. I understand your insecurities, but I'm sure you'll still feel special on your birthday. (Maybe to end up the only one in a dress you can tell people to dress casually I'm sure you'll look spectacular).

Let me know if there are any problems, okay?
Nat.

My own personal opinion here: I think if you are dressed up in a dress and everyone else is in jeans and a tshirt it would look extremely weird. And tacky. If you are having a French theme.. everyone should dress up or nobody. That's my own personal opinion there.

I don't think Sox was trying to be mean and bitchy. They didn't stereotype you because they asked. Stereotyping is when you assume and judge without knowing. They asked so they were wanting to know. Just saying..
