My two best friends are in a fight. - August 30th 2009, 03:10 AM

Okay so this is the story. Sorry if it's long but I really don't think I can solve it by myself.

About a week ago my friend (we'll call her friend 1) found out about something my other friend did (we'll call her friend 2). Friend 1 heard from friend 2's ex about something they did together about two years ago. I'm not going to go into detail but it really wasn't a big deal. Friend 2's ex is a complete idiot that lies all the time and all of us hate. I don't understand why but Friend 1 got really upset when she found out about this 'thing'. Friend 1 decided she wasn't going to be friends with friend 2 anymore. So...she went onto Myspace and Facebook and deleted all of the pictures of them together. Then friend 2 calls me up crying because we have all been best friends for about 5 years. Now it's my job to fix this whole thing because friend 1 went away on a cruise the next day so we haven't been able to ask her anything or talk. She is coming home tomorrow and I have no idea how to get her to become friends again. This isn't the first time she has gotten upset over something stupid and it always is fine in the end. This just seems like the worst time it has happened and I really need to work this out before school starts on Wednesday.

Any advice would be great! Thanks for reading this!

Hi Alessa,

It does sound like your friends are in a bit of a fight right now and you know the details quite well, but there's one thing you need to realize, and that is that it isn't your job to fix it for them. I know you're only trying to be a good friend and have this solved, but this is something your friends are going to need to work out on their own.

If you do want to help them along, then tell your friends that you will stand by them while they discuss this between them and that you will do your best to be a mediator to help work things out. What you shouldn't do is take all of the problems upon yourself. Your friends need to learn how to work out disagreements on their own. Maybe you could help prompt them with questions they should ask each other or topics they should discuss.

For the most part, I think your friends are having a misunderstanding and they really need to communicate how they feel to one another to solve this. It could be that they overreacted when they really needed to take some time to think things over.

I hope everything goes well for you and your friends. I really hope they can work this out.

Nat.

Hey Nat,
Thank you so much for the advice. I agree with you that its just a misunderstanding so I'm going to have them talk to eachother and tell them if they need me to just give me a call. Thanks so much!

Hi Alessa,

I'm really glad your friends were able to work this out between them and realize that it was a misunderstanding. You really did the right thing by being there for them and letting them sort it out on their own.

I'm going to close this thread for now. If anything comes up, please feel free to send me a message or start a new thread.

Nat.
