Family tension - September 10th 2009, 08:41 AM

I can't stand it! IM GOING INSANE! My home is so full of tension 24/7. I JUST CAN'T STAND IT! I can't sleep at night, the other night I didn't get to sleep until almost 9 am and I had to get up at 10 am. Not only is every minute I spend at home saturated in tension so is every minute I spend at work. I have been working at my first job for two years now and I absolutely hate it for several reasons, but I haven't been able to find a new one yet. Now that I am out of school I spend 99% of my time at home or at work. I feel like I may actually go insane. I just want to scream and cry every night.

Hi!
*hug* I'm really sorry!!!
But can I ask why you're so angry with your home and the people in it??

But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved.

As wild and as reckless as thunder over the land.
Racing with the eagle, soaring with the wind.
Flying? There were times I believed I could."

Re: Family tension - September 10th 2009, 08:57 AM

It's not really anger just tension on everyone's part. My parents are just making it from paycheck to paycheck. My sisters were both recently forced to come out to my parents before they were ready to. My 22 yr old sister that I have never gotten along with is driving me insane because she has been working at McDonalds the past 5 years and does nothing else but be lazy around the house.

Hey there,

It does sound like you are in an incredibly stressful position, both at home and at work. I think that is something you are going to need to find a resolution for, or at least a way to calm yourself down.

Since you spend so much time at home, maybe you could try getting out of the house for a bit and going for a daily walk or jog. That might help relieve some of the stress you have worked up. Try doing a few stretches and then going for a long walk. Getting out of a stressful environment would really help, and tiring yourself out will probably help you sleep better.

If you aren't interested in walking or jogging, then you could always spend some time at the library and read, write or draw. It would be a nice, quiet place that you could spend some time at and just have some personal time.

I think you should probably talk to your family as well. I know that everyone is tense and stressed out, but try talking to them one on one and finding out if there is a way to make everyone feel more comfortable around one another- or at least make some sort of compromise. There are things your parents and siblings need to work out on their own, but maybe it would help them along to be able to talk to someone. Also, maybe you could suggest to your parents that your older sister should help out more around the house if she isn't really doing anything. Try to work out a chore schedule so everyone can do their part.

I think the main thing right now is for you to find an activity that will help you de-stress. There are so many things you could do: walking, jogging, reading, writing, painting, do stretches, volunteer, cook. Find out what you like to do and spend some time every day doing it. Make sure it's something that would help you get out of the house a bit.

Take care.
Nat.
