I think that maybe you should explain to her that you want to be treated more like a grown up than a child now and that you feel she is treating you as if you are younger than you are. That way, you wont be making her feel bad as you wont be telling her the exact reasoning but she should treat you better.

Re: help me - February 2nd 2009, 03:52 PM

thank you, I'm going to try that
its just really annoying because she always does this and like im 17 years old. i think i deserve to be treated like a 17 year old should be treated. its not like im not smart
im in scholars in my class and yes i get bullied because my reading isnt on a highschool level but its not horrible. its like on an eighth grade level. and the kids harass me for it but i deal. but my sister shouldn't cause shes 19 years old and should know better than to treat me like that.

Yes, she should know better than to treat you like that. It's quite possible that she doesnt actually realise she's treating you that way. She's an older sibling and that tends to be how they are (I have 7 of them so I know older siblings can be annoying!) but they should still have the respec to listen to you when you tell them you dont need to be treated like a child any more.
You should make sure you say it as constructively as you can to avoid any arguments though.

I'm moving this to "friends and family" as I think you'll be able to gain more help there.

Hi there,

I think you should talk to your sister about this. She needs to understand how you are feeling and what you think needs to be changed. She probably doesn't realize she is treating you this way or she doesn't realize how much it bothers you. The best way to solve this would be by explaining it to her. I'm sure she'll understand.

I hope this goes well for you. Your sister sounds like she cares about you a lot, she just needs to hear how you're feeling.

Nat.

thank you all so much... you really are helping a lot.
i talked to my sister and she said she'll make a note of it to stop treating me this way.
I am hoping she remembers not to cause it really annoys me cause i get hurt so much in school. I just want to be normal.

*Hugs*
What is normal besides a setting on a washing machine? :-P
You are fine just the way you are, and you don't need to be any different.
The people at school who make you feel insecure are just a bunch of losers who have to put you down to feel better about themselves. If that's normal, why would you want to be a part of that? And I'm glad that you talked to your sister, I'm sure she understands.

But the way you do read, it's good enough.
And, no I'm not going to give you a things could be worse lecture, but at least you can pick up a book and actually read through it, because I know there are some people in the world who will never even be able to do that. So, as far as I'm concerned anyone who can sit down and read a book and understand what's going on almost all the way through is a good reader.

Some people in your situation wouldnt have bothered trying to learn. And the fact that you did try and still are trying to get better shows you're committed to it.
And hey, nobody's perfect. I'm sure you have many other qualitites and reading will come with time.
