No wonder I'm so bloody messed up :| - May 9th 2010, 06:12 PM

Both my parents and myself are on Anti-Depressants. My parents have it worse than me though. When I was younger I have to admit I was a pain in the bum but my mum didn't really help and used to lock herself in the bathroom when I played up. She went on anti-depressants and it sorted her out a bit. My dad has also taken them for years.

Right now they're both really depressed :/ I'm not at the moment but that's because of the medication. I'm not used to being the most mentally stable person in my house :/ I want to help them but I don't know how. I admit my dad is mentally stronger than my mum, he makes himself do things when he's depressed and helps himself (which is where I think my "I won't give in to this" strategy come from). My mum, doesn't :/

Me and my mum aren't all that close and I think this is a reason as to why. I think when I was a child she took the depression out on me which made me worse. I want to sort this all out :|

*hugs* It's difficult to help people who are suffering from depression, when you yourself are suffering from depression. I know you're on medication... but are they regularly taking medication as well? How about counseling (individual/group)? There's only so much you can do for them as their daughter... as I'm sure you've realized, talking about how you feel doesn't make the chemical imbalances caused by depression magically go away. It's good to have someone to talk to, but you also need a psychological professional on board as well.

My dad takes his tablets everyday, my mum sometimes forgets. I've never really understood how you can forget to take them :| but there we go. I asked my GP for therapy before but he said he didn't think I needed it as the medication seemed to be working great. He is right in the sense that I feel 1000x better than I did before but I don't really want medication to be the only thing to make me feel this way :/

My parents are both Buddhists and they've both said it has helped their depression but both of them haven't been to a meeting in ages :|
