I.... - May 17th 2010, 03:35 AM

It fucking feels like nobody gives a crap. Her dog dies and she runs to her, my grandma dies...shes been my best friend since grade 6. Suddenly I have to find out from other people her Grandfather isnt feeling well? Why do I always end up second best to everyone? I know this makes no sense, I'm just upset and ranting.

Hey there, Sam! I'm sorry you're feeling this way right now. =( When I was in middle school, I ALWAYS felt like the "third wheel". I never had a best friend... instead, I would be friends with two boys/girls who were already best friends, and had been best friends for years. It always felt like I was the last person to hear about other students' problems or achievements.

The way I see it, you have two options: talk to her about this (and try to strengthen your friendship), or meet new people (and eventually find a better "best friend"). Perhaps your friend didn't want anyone to know about her grandfather. Maybe another one of her friends was just in the right place at the right time, and was able to find out about her grandfather. That would explain why you received this information second-hand. If that's the case, I would just remind your friend that she can trust you with ANYTHING, and that you're always willing to lend her an ear (or a shoulder to cry on). Sometimes, we don't want to burden one friend with all of our problems, so we share different problems with different friends.

If you don't think this friendship can be salvaged, or if you think she simply doesn't care anymore, then it's time to meet new people (or strengthen your friendships with other people). Join new clubs/organizations, volunteer in your community, connect with people on TeenHelp or other websites... eventually, you're going to meet someone who cares about you just as much as you care about them. =D
