Graduation week and im sitting at home...suck - June 4th 2010, 04:27 AM

So its graduation time and everyone is having parties and fun times with friends except me. For my last two yrs of high school i took all my classes at the college, and switched high schools, so all my friends stopped talking to me and now i have none. I have a boyfriend who i hang out with a lot but hes a normal person so he has friends and i feel terrible about it but i cant help but to be jealous. to make it better most of them are girls and prettier than me. it just sucks he and everyone else are out having fun and im at home on the computer hating life. no matter how hard i try i cant make any friends and im really starting to hate this kind of life...actually i always have just now its getting intolerable and idk what to do anymore.

Hello, Cori. =) I've been there before, and it's NOT fun. It's hard to drag yourself out of that rut.

When I was in your situation, the first thing I did was get my butt off the computer. =P Sitting around all day moping won't help... you've got to be pro-active! Then, start making connections through the people you're already friends with. In this case, that would be your boyfriend. Heck, he should jump on the chance to show his beautiful girlfriend off to all his friends! =D I'll bet they'd love to meet you as well, because you're their friend's girlfriend, and I'm sure they've heard a lot about you.

Be friendly, warm, ask questions, get to know them and learn about their interests. People love to talk about themselves, so after a few conversations, you'll probably discover you have something in common with one or two of your boyfriend's friends. Ask them if they'd like to get together on such-and-such day, and try to develop your friendship from there! With time, they're bound to introduce you to their friends as well, and you can become friends with those people. Before you know it, you won't have time for everyone you've met. xD

Other things you could try are getting back in touch with old friends (via phone or e-mail) or joining a club/sport/organization over the summer. I tried calling old friends when I was in your situation. Most of the conversations were awkward and didn't really result in anything, but one or two friends were REALLY excited to hear back from me. We ended up hanging out soon after that, and we had a blast! As for the club/sport/organization idea, that didn't really work for me... but I ended up getting a part-time job, and I became friends with my co-workers. =) Basically, make a list of your interests, and try to find people who have similar interests. If you're interested in art, try joining a ceramics class (I've always wanted to do that!). If you end up getting a job, you'll probably bond with some of your co-workers, because you have your job in common with them. =P
