Just wondering which do people prefer? - August 22nd 2010, 04:37 AM

Girls, do you think guys make better friends?

Guys, do you think girls make better friends?
For either meaning a tight, trusting relationship; a platonic. Or just in general - I'm curious.

For me I find with girls I can be more open and trusting with them. However with guys I don't talk about feelings nor tell secrets they're just generally fun to hang out with because we have the same entertainment interests whereas a girl is mainly talking.

doesn't matter to me but probably guys are easier to talk to.. it does depend on the situation though. as to who makes better friends, i think it's equal.. wouldn't like to choose.

I think it depends on the actual girl or guy rather than the fact that they are a guy/girl....i don't know how well I've explained that haha xD I have friends of both sexes who I feel comfortable talking to so I don't think I can really say.

I don't think it depends on gender, it depends on the person. I do find differances between guys and girls, like girls tend to gossip more whereas guys tend to laugh and joke more (not saying girls don't laugh and joke, what i mean is that guys tend to be more crude in their jokes. Like sex jokes etc). But aside from that i don't really have trouble talking to any guy or girl unless there's something specific about them which i find intimidating or something.

Re: Just wondering which do people prefer? - August 22nd 2010, 07:28 PM

I put guys.
I have my best friend, my sister in law and my friend Shirley and those are really the only girls I can talk to and open up with. But there are more guy friends I can be myself around and have fun with.
I open up more easily to guys and hang out with them more. Im not your typical girly girl so I get down and gritty with the guys more than I do with the girls. But Im gritty and girly all at the same time.
Yes guys can be dramatic and OMG but nowhere near as close as girls and Id rather be as far as I can be from the drama and I get that more with guys.
Although Samantha was right, you can fall for your guy friends. Just as guys can for their girl friends. And sometimes that can gettcha into some trouble...

Depends on the situation, I can easily talk to both sexes about my problems but I think that my girl friends are easier to talk to but they are so dramatic while my boy friends are less dramatic and always make me laugh.

I find it easier to talk to girls, I usually get very shy around boys.

I go to my guy friends for the hugs, and the stupid timed calls when I'm feeling low. I know they won't freak out if I tell them anything. (: There's less drama with males.

I say that I don't care, but guys are just a little bit easier to talk to than girls. They don't take things personally and, even though I don't like it, they can be brutally honest which is what I think everyone needs sometimes.

I find it easier to talk to girls about stuff, but of course, this isn't a definite rule, since it ultimately depends on the person.
But I still voted 'girls are easier to talk to' since well, around other guys, talking about feelings doesn't exactly come naturally, we're too busy talking about man things! Like cars! Fast Cars! And women that look like cans of irn-bru when they wear blue! Now let me go and eat my dinner of BRICKS.

Me being a lunatic aside; basically, yeah...it's easier to talk to girls about feelings >.>

It doesn't matter to me because I'm fine around both sexes and usually can get people from both sexes, on average, to like me and be able to talk with them. For me, even if I get along with someone, doesn't necessarily mean they're a friend. So for getting friends, it depends on the person but roughly it's about equal. For dramatic things, both sexes may talk to me about it, although it's more females who will than males. Seems to occur on TH as well as in-person.

Re: Just wondering which do people prefer? - August 25th 2010, 02:19 PM

Most of my close friends are male. I used to have good female friends, but I drifted away from them. I'm not really an emotional person- Hanging out with friends we usually just have a laugh, talk and all about movies or current events or things to do with our other friends but never heart to hearts or anything.

Usually I'm really greatful for that because like I said, I'm sort of a closed off person. However, sometimes if something happens and I'm really upset or struggling, it would be nice to have some girl friends, or even male friends who would talk it through with me. Some of my male friends on the rare occasion I have mentioned anything have tried but all in all they tend to be useless lol. Not their fault.

Also, sometimes the lines blur. I tend to be really dense when it comes to flirting, and sometimes I realize what I thought was playful banter has been mistaken for something else. Another thing is that when my male friends have girlfriends, 99% of the time they hate me and when they have them my friends will ignore me from time to time.

I know I should be comfortable talking with girls but I'm not. Apart from the whole 'flirting' thing I'm really good at reading people, and I always feel with girls that it is a competition. Non issues turn into massive issues a lot of the time with females (like if you forget to reply on facebook or something you must hate them and it's an example of how much you've 'changed').

Guys just tend to be easier.

I have a zillion guy friends and 2 or three close girl friends. Girls are good at the whole talking thing. Guys are good at the laughing/joking around/climbing trees/drinking things. Plus guys treat girl friends really great whilst groups of female friends just bitch and moan. Girls bore me, in all honesty.

Guys. There's less drama with them and they tend to tell you what they think of you straight to your face rather than behind your back.

Girls are easier to talk to about certain things but I'd definitely prefer hanging out with guys.

Guys. I've always been a bit of a tomboy, so I'm not afraid to run around and get sweaty or dirty while playing a game. I don't experience as much "drama" when I'm around (most) of my guy friends, which is niiiiiiiiiiiice. <3 I'm also more likely to have similar interests with guys (especially when it comes to technology/video games), AND we have similar senses of humor (all of my girl friends wrinkle their noses when I tell jokes, because they're "crude"). Honestly, the only girls I REALLY get along with are my roommates (because I've had plenty of time to learn more about them) and girls I've met online (don't even get me started on my fellow staff members...). I feel so "fake" when I'm around other girls. =/

I "have" had both a girl best friend and a guy best friend.
While I'm extremely close with my guy best friend I don't feel as if we can talk about emotions (though i have and we can) but with my girl best friend I feel much more loose and comfortable.
Once I lost my girl bff I don't talk to anyone about things.

I agree though, as a guy male friends are much more lax and fun to be around.

I shouldn't Have made the pole only 4 options.
Should have been 6: I'm a girl and think guys are easier to talk to. And so on.

I don't think either are easier or harder for me to talk to. I've met far too many people who don't meet the stereotypes. Depending on how they grew up and the composition of their family and friends people can be dramatically different.

I believe that friends can fill a variety of niches. Sometimes you need a friend you can just talk to. Some friends are really good at making you laugh and just hanging out. No one friend needs to provide all of those.

I usually find it easier to talk to girls, but I only have a couple of close guy friends, and even then, I typically don't talk to them very often.
