A friend in Need - October 24th 2010, 05:53 PM

I have a very dominating friend. When I'm in my group of friends (it's a group of about 10) she's the one person dominating the entire conversation. And when we try to talk about issues or topics, the only opinion that's right, the only opinion that counts, is hers. You don't have a say so. She'll even go as far as verbally fighting you on your opinion. It's not uncommon to hear her tell a person, "your opinion's wrong." or "your stupid for saying that." Another issue I've been having with this friend is that every time I try to talk she freezes me out. It can be me, her, and two of my other friends and if I try to say something, she'll cut me off. She doesn't seem to do this with anybody else, but me. It's hurtful because shouldn't my opinion count too? Shouldn't I be able to speak my mind around my friends? I've tried talking faster so I can get my thoughts out there before she can cut me off, I've tried talking slower so everyone can understand me, I've even tried talking louder so everyone can hear me, but nothing seems to work. She keeps cutting me off. What do I do?

Shes obviously not being a very good friend by doing this. I have a friend like this, er, i did.

Try to talk to her privatley. Or with your group of friends, if they notice this too. Ask her why she acts that way. Why she does that. Explain that it hurts you and you dont appreciate the way she treats you, and if she doesnt change, then tell her you dont want or need a friend that is only going to put you down. Cause its true. You can say you tried, but if it doesnt get through to her, then theres not much you can do. /:

Feel free to PM/VM me if you ever need someone to talk to, or just want someone to listen. I'm also always up for making new friends.

What I would suggest would be to find a time when she is alone and in a good mood. Then explain to her that your opinion counts too and that you would like to speak without being interrupted. If she doesn't listen to that...I would give up the friendship.
