What should I Do? - October 26th 2010, 02:12 AM

First I'm not sure if this is in the right place, so if it isnt put it where it needs to be.

Today in choir my teacher told us about a community choir that is looking for high school students to join and she gave us a permission slip for our parents to sign. One of my friends is gonna do it and I really want to. Partly so I can actually hang out with my friends, but mostly because I love singing and it would give me something to do to get out of the house more. There's one problem. Its at a church and my moms bf doesn't want to be anywhere near a church. He will probably be the one who decides if I can do it or not. If I do then the whole way home from the concert in december I will hear nothing but complaints about the music choice just like I do after my school choir concerts. They never encourage me with singing or anything else I love doing. All they do is complain about it or make stupid rules. Should I even ask if I can or just forget about it?

If it's something you really want to do you should ask, even if they complain about the music choice and don't seem to support your singing. The worst that can happen is they say no or continue to be less than encouraging. If singing makes you happy, then let the complain about it. Their attitude towards it has nothing to do with whether you should take this opportunity. And if you don't ask, you're not giving them a chance to say yes, and you're not giving yourself the opportunity. So I think you should absolutely ask.

So I will find my fears and face them
I will cower like a dog
I will kick and scream
I will kneel and plead
I'll fight like hell to hide that I'm givin' up

Please don't give up on that. If you have something that you can and will do, never give up. I know it will be frustrating to listen to your family, but trust me, it will be worth it. Now...if I could come up with a way for me to participate on my school's soccer team, that would be great! (without telling my parents, though)
