Penpals. - February 12th 2011, 06:47 PM

I had a few penpals years ago but lost touch with them And i'd really like to make a few new penpals and think it would be awesome having someone to write to and get letters from, where can i find penpals who have sa/depression?

Have you ever had a penpal/penpals?

Do you think It's a good or bad idea?

Though the one thing i'm worried about is safety

We have a forum for depression, and we're having three facilitated chat room discussions on depression today! So you could start off by meeting people on this site. =) If you're concerned about safety (not wanting to share your address), start off by exchanging private messages. If you feel comfortable enough to exchange your physical address after a while, you could become penpals who exchange actual letters. Keep in mind that "TeenHelp does not recommend that information such as surnames, phone numbers and street addresses are disclosed anywhere on TeenHelp, even to trusted parties", however, so many members may be just as unwilling as you are to exchange personal information. You could also try finding support groups for depression in your hometown, and exchange physical addresses with some of the members there!

I have never had a steady penpal, and I wish I did! I love getting letters. <3

Hm... Penpals are fun! But this site is sort of a big penpal group, is it not? And there are safeguards on this site so you don't get attacked by creepy people.

I hosted a foreign exchange student from France once and I wrote to her for a while afterward. It was fun!

If you can find a penpal that you trust, go for it!

Otherwise, just make friends here. Maybe you can even snail-mail some TH people.

Re: Penpals. - February 12th 2011, 10:01 PM

In the beginning of my grade school days is the last time I had penpals, and I'm not even sure if I could remember their names today. This is sad, because penpals are a wonderful thing to have.
Here at TeenHelp however, we're a large penpal group and we love exchanging messages and talking with other members. Like Robin said, there are depression discussions going on today, so why don't you start there to make some new internet 'penpal' friends.
There is also the depression forum here, which is another great place to start.
I do, however, don't suggest giving out your personal home information to anyone. While Robin said that it isn't advised here on the website, it's also a big thing with security.

I hope you find exactly what your looking for and if you need any help, you can go ahead and feel free to private message me anytime.

I've never had a penpal before, but I guess you could consider Teen Help as one as you are technically anonymously writing so somebody.
If you need anyone to talk to, I'm here
