Not sure what to do anymore.. - February 19th 2011, 01:07 AM

I stay at my boyfriend's parent's house a lot. (He had his own place, but left to let his cousin and her family live there because they got kicked out of their house.)

My boyfriend smokes, his parents smoke (A LOT) and I smoke. Every single time I come home from his house, my parents bitch about my clothes smelling like smoke. I can't win. I'm not going to stop staying there, but I can't magically make my clothes not smell like smoke.

Basically, I have no idea what the hell to do.

Hmmm... I know that you can use certain products to get the smell of cigarette smoke out of furniture, carpets, etc. but I'm not sure what you can do if the smell is also in your hair, on your skin, etc. You could try bringing a second set of clothing with you... maybe showering and changing at your boyfriend's house, then quickly leaving the house and driving home (letting the car air out while you're showering).

Other than that, I'm not really sure what you can do. You could agree to take a shower and wash your clothing as soon as you get home, so your parents don't have much exposure to the smell. This is one of those cases where... well, your parents aren't exactly WRONG for complaining about the smell. But they can't expect you to complete avoid cigarette smoke, either, based on your habits and the company you hold. So try to compromise, and if they still aren't satisfied... tough. =/

Personally I think it would be a good idea to lead a family intervention, for all of you all to try to quit together.
