I feel like an old lady. - June 2nd 2011, 02:57 AM

I've been having a really tough time recently. I'm graduating high school in 2 days and I feel like I've basically fallen out with the friend group that I had throughout those years.

I'm so tired of my friends doing stupid stuff when they're drunk because "we're seniors and woah it's so cool to get wasted and hook up" and I just feel like an old lady--I almost feel like I'm "too mature" (even though I'm a huge proponent of the do-what-you-want mentality) for that behavior.

The good thing is that high school is over. The bad thing is that in the fall I'm attending Duke which has a reputation for crazy-drinking-partying-fratty behavior. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that I can't get elsewhere. I know there will be people like that in college, but there will be people like me too, right? I'm in the nerdy group of my high school class and if they act like that then there is nowhere left for me to turn haha.

how nice- to feel nothing but still get credit for being alive

You'll find mature, responsible people at Duke. You just have to look in the right places. =P Meaning, don't try to find those friends at bars/clubs/parties. Some of your friends will probably go to those places from time to time, but not every night like your high school friends probably would if they went to college. Join a few clubs that are of interest to you, and get to know the people in those clubs. Spend time with them in their apartments, so you can see what they are like on "normal" days/evenings. Trust me, you'll find them... it's just going to take a bit of effort, because they're not as visible as the crazy, reckless college kids. =P

I am the same way I do not like drinking or anything and I think it is good in the long run because you will prolly get done with collage faster, a lot of people party and drink so much in collage they end up failing and having to extra years... And yes you are more mature and nothing is wrong with that, you just have a better more mature way of having fun and there is nothing wrong with that at all. So it will all be fine
