Feeling just...low - June 29th 2011, 10:42 PM

Right so tommorow is my yr11 prom..I should be excited and I am....but....
Everyone of my friends is either going with a "date" or as a bunch of friends.....I have not been invited to go with a buch of mates and as the only out lesbian in my year noone would ever go with me as a "date" ...

I just feel so left out, like a bit on the side that people call their friend becuase I make a complete idiot of myself.

I know deep down that I have friends in the "real" world (not on the interent like here) But I can't get passed this feeling low about it all....I just don't understand how after I have helped my friends through all thier hard times, been a listener that can give support and advice and make them all laugh that I haven't been apart of the prom plans of arrival....

It makes me feel like they don't actually like me, and it makes me feel stupid that I am going to turn up on my own...

I don't even know why I am posting this.....I should of taken the advice that I often give to people of talking to my friends...but its too late for that now as in 24 hours the prom will be over and by now all plans have been made and set in stone.

Hey, Elizabeth! I'm sorry you didn't receive a reply before your prom took place. I hope it was an enjoyable experience, despite your problems with your friends! I remember my high school proms. I had dates both times, but I ended up spending the evening with a large group of friends the second time. Most were single, and they probably felt a little left out as well. They made the best of their situation, though, and I hope you were able to do the same.

Planning for prom can be stressful for people, so your friends may not have intended to leave you out... they just might have been so focused on plans with their own dates that they didn't have time to think about single friends.

Sometimes, you just have to speak up and tell your friends, "Hey, I don't have a date, and I don't have anyone to hang out with before/after prom... is there any chance I could tag along in your limo/join your party?" If you don't say anything, people may assume you're okay. If you speak up, though, they'll be aware of your situation and try to help out! =)
