Unhappy Dont know what to do about my friend - September 3rd 2011, 02:21 AM

I hope this is the right place for this post . Well i have a problem with a really close friend of mine, and i just wanted some thoughts from you all. So i found out my friend drinks alot of alcohol, and she is only 15. She likes to get drunk and i'm really against that, but i don't know what to do, cause its her life and i don't think i should be telling her how to live it. She does have kind of a bad past, so i would think that contributes to the drinking. So if a close friend of yours did something like that, would it bother you? and if so, what would you do? I really care about her and I don't want to see this ruin her life or something bad happen because of it.

Personally I'd tell her my opinion and how I felt but the actions and decision after that would be up to her. I think your a really good friend caring about this and I just think you should tell her how you feel and see what happens after. In the end it'll be up to her but I think she would feel much safer if you at least told her your opinion and how its affecting you. Anyway the best of luck!

Unfortunately, I've met plenty of people like your friend. The bottom-line is that drinking excessively is bad for you, regardless of how old you are. I would tell her how I feel. She's not going to give a crap about the side effects of drinking excessively (no 15-year-old thinks about what would happen if their liver shut down one day), but she may care about the effect this is having on your friendship with her, and how it could affect her other meaningful relationships (assuming she has any). The most important thing is to confront her in a loving manner - you don't want to put her on the defensive.
