moms boyfriend. - October 15th 2011, 12:43 AM

My mom has been dating this guy for two years now so me, my mom, and my brother moved in with him last year. He's a really nice guy but he makes fat jokes about me a lot. I'm not little but I wouldn't consider myself "fat". Whenever I get mad my mom just tells me to calm down "its just a joke". Once maybe, But multiple times a week isn't okay with me. And I'm not sure what to do:\

Hi Eilish,

Instead of being mad at him and saying what you're feeling in anger, try telling him calmly and directly: "Please stop saying that I do not appreciate those remarks".

It's OK to be direct with an adult, it's just best to be polite. Many think they can't say anything to someone older or in authority, which makes it worse if you're feeling upset or angry, eventually it just comes out angrily, which is far worse for both of you!

PM me with the link of the post you'd like me to respond to.
